Chris Landry was on the radio here in Charlotte.

The Panthers need a CB in the worst way.

Just pointing out one slight 'ouch' moment.

When asked who was the better CB pick, Landry stated:

Paraphrased: "Claiborne is the better athlete and has way more upside than Dre Kirkpatrick. The reason that Dre has maxed out as a NCAA Senior, is that he is already there, mentally. A Saban defense asked way more of Dre, than LSU asked of Mo. And that's okay, but Saban makes sure that his players are NFL-ready, mentally for the game by their Sophomore year. Not saying that Mo isn't as smart, but that Mo was given a reduced defensive plan....and he did a great job with it, physically. Can he pick up on these new defenses? We'll see, but we already know that Dre has the mental aspect licked. I will say this, Mo is a better PURE COVER CORNER than Patrick Peterson was, but Peterson is simply a freak."

Somewhat of an indictment on LSU's defense during the BCS game. Also an slight indictment on Dre, saying that he's got less room for improvement.

Also keep in mind that this Scout did coach with Saban at New England.

actually I agree.

The indictment was that our offense stayed on the field for only 36 seconds.

Chris Landry

Is oftentimes more of a Saban Homer than Bama Fans.

The reality of the situation is that this year, more than any other, Bama played more of a base defense while not pressuring as much with the DB's as they have in seasons past - there was no need given the dominance of their Line and LB's. The Idiocy in Landry's comments is that Saban CB's are asked to do so much more than that asked in the professional game. How that gives Saban coached backs a leg up is pointless. Pro defenses just want to make sure that CB's are not beat like Harper and Jenkins were this past Saturday.

FWIW, Landry has been, and remains very proud of himself and his opinions. If you listen to others scouting the SEC, Claiborne will be the 1st Corner Picked, and was by a long shot even before Dre' went on his bong binger -

Chris Landry sleeps with Saban's picture under his pillow. Why isn't every defensive back ever coached by Saban be first round draft choices?

Chris Landry has been using this comparison about LSU's defensive players vs Saban players sense Miles has been here. He said the same thing about Oeterson last year if I'm not mistaken.
Yet somehow LSU has the last 2 Bednarik and Thorpe winners and will have the first CBs taken in consecutive drafts.

Did anybody have Kirkpatrick higher than Mo even before Dre proved his stupidity? I haven't seen any.

Serious question, who's the last Saban-coached DB to be worth a damn in the NFL? Webster? Am I forgetting someone? Don't say Landry, it's been over two years and he's still trying to find Robert Meachem. Kareem Jackson was the last "big time" guy and he plays coverage like his eyes are closed.

He still thinks the Saints' offense is not unstoppable

Saban certainly knows about the NFL. Might make a hell of a coach.

Chris Landry is a proven plagerizer and a proven hater (as in worse than almost any one on this board) towards any LSU team/staff since Miles was hired.

PP only had three years in college and though he had his mistakes in Arizona on D, took more snaps on D than most early DBs make in the NFL. Miles and company took a good athlete in Mo that was primarily a running QB in HS and made him into a cover CB ready to play in year one.

Saban can develop DBs, but LSU is better at it right now. And for Landry to slip in an implied insult or negative comparison between LSU and Bama DB coaching right now shows he is a hack.

Houston fans sure do love their bama cb. They collectively thank saban for making him "NFL ready".
