Now it is possible he won't be able to translate to a starter and closer becomes his role, but you have to give being a starter the first shot.
He threw well in his starts when he was only a starter and threw well in the bullpen when he was only a reliever.
There was a short period of time when they were asking him to do both that he struggled with both. He'll be fine in either role, unless he can't nail down a third pitch. But even then, he can get through the order twice against most teams we play with a borderline 3rd pitch.

And I got blasted for saying it was a bad decision to start him knowing his arm was bothering him.
As you should have been. Are you insinuating that Walker would be pitching next season if he didn't start that game in the CWS?

I wasn't saying I'd make that argument, rick.
Just that it wouldn't be out of left field.

It is in the same class as the other two I referenced.

guess Hess will be forced to be a starter
He's not being "forced" into anything, he was going to start anyway.

Yeah. I think he has to be a starter next season (even before the Walker injury). Developing a third pitch will make him totally dominating, if he can prove he can keep it up over 6-7 innings. You can bet your arse off he will be working on a change up from now until the start of next season.
If he doesn't develop the third pitch, then he's just Lange (who had a good fastball and a great curveball). Hess has a slightly better fastball and a good slider. And being another Lange is not a bad consolation prize.

I'm gushing over Cabrera. He's been a fun one to follow this summer. 29 for 77 with only 4 Ks.

If we're cursed, then what would you call Miss St's injury situation?
Posted on 7/6/17 at 11:12 am to BigTimer23
Andy Cannizaro is the cause of the curse. It is still lingering here but it is looming in Starkville.

I really liked what Bush showed against UF in relief.
Bush got a start in the Northwoods league last night, so they may be prepping him for that role.
3.1 innings, 1 earned, 6 K, 2 BB, 1 hit
3 ground outs, one fly out. 56 pitches total so pretty efficient (probably on a pitch count if they're trying to build him up).
The run he gave up was a runner he left on base that Will Reese allowed to score. His outing was not great. (ETA: the "his" in this case is Reese, Bush did very well)
Blair Frederick seems to be finding his control a bit this summer. 4 BB and 14 K in 8.2 innings. WHIP and ERA steadily declining after a bad first outing.

Starting RF next year.
My favorite recruit in the class, and to follow this summer so far has been Webre. He's going to be able to help us in so many ways.

Man we are so cursed with injuries sometimes
This and the fact that High school athletes can get drafted.

When I suggested CPM needed to save his arm for the post season, everyone down-voted me. I saw a change in his motion like he was laboring more at the end of games, got skewered for mentioning it.
Now he's not just out for CWS, but all of next season.

Interesting name to watch out for: Paul Mainieri said Nick Bush will get a chance to start this summer.

Son of a bitch. I guess Hess will be forced to be a starter for sure now
Did people really think Hess was going to stay in the bullpen?
