For frick's sake... Pitching isn't what cost us those last two games. At all. I know you can't mean the games leading up to the final series... you know... the games where we won our side of the bracket?

Time for AJ Labas or Trent Veitmeier to step up and take a spot

No. No one doesn't.

Right. There is literally nothing we could have done better (other than not pitching him all year and praying that did the trick), only a lot of things that could have been done worse.

It's a time bomb.

Calm down, no one is saying Paul went rogue. His incompetence of not being in tune with his pitchers across the board is what I am talking about. I am not saying he caused the injury, but one has to think that due to his mismanagement of other pitchers that he isn't managing them all properly.

You are just flat out stupid, and should avoid posting. There is no other nice way around it.

Well, let's see, did he allow a pitcher to stay in too long and walk 3 in a row? Didn't that score eventually coast the game?

Also, I would say his severely mismanaged the hitters as well. Their approach at the plate was so bad as well. Fail all the way around when he needed to actually coach the team to win and not win on talent alone.

Even then, since we still aren't really sure what the cause of this type of injury is, there is no telling if rest (even for a year) would have prevented it.

What mismanagement of other pitchers? He's one of the more careful ones in the game. No person of any legitimacy has ever called into question Mainieri's use of pitchers.

This thread is about Walker being hurt. Take your grievances with Paul that are irrelevant to this topic to your own thread.

Paul Mainieri is the greatest steward of arm talent in LSU's history. No serious person would suggest that he endangers any of the pitchers.

Outside of Ott's treatment in his sophomore season, the guy has been a great advocate for his pitchers.

Exactly.

Now, remember when people were hoping he'd get a break in the SECT? And when he didn't people were talking about well, just win out and he'd get one in the SR. Which worked out great. But during all the time, people went back and found out he pitched even more innings his junior year of high school. If there is ANYTHING to point to, it could be that. Being overextended as a 16/17 year old. Because you know as well as me that those 100+ innings weren't the only outings he had that year.

You can knock CPM for multiple things. It's very easy to do with any coach or player in baseball when you have the advantage of hindsight. However, saying that he over uses and abuses his pitchers is not something you can say AT ALL. He is pretty cautious with his pitching staff, and always puts the player above the game (and you can look back to the last games we played against Florida for evidence of this).

Do you realize that you are talking about a pitcher who had just threw 3 scoreless innings? If he would have removed Renolds from the game at the start of the 4th and the next pitcher he replaced him with would have come in and gave up 3 runs, then you would be making this thread saying that he pulled a pitcher when he shouldn't have. You have the gift of knowing how the inning turned out. CPM didn't have that same glimpse into the future at the start of the inning. If you can't understand that then I don't know what the hell else to tell you.

I will never EVER fault PM for leaving in a pitcher 1 batter too late. No coach can get it perfect every time. Most people here know that I'm one of PM's harshest critics and the gripe I had was not have pitchers ready when it's already 1 batter too late. That didn't happen that game. If you told me that Reynolds would starts in a CWS final series game, go 3 innings, and we'd only give up 4 runs all game, I'd take that in a fricking heartbeat. It wasn't on the pitching that game. We had 9 damn hits.

All the way around? Like we didn't win a single game in the CWS? I'm done with you. GTFO.
