Somewhat related question.
Why do teams not convert more jumbo TE's (Dillon Gordon type) to play the LT spot?
Seems like a natural position switch, get a tall guy, with quick feet and long arms on the edge.
May take a redshirt year but the player would make $ and the TE position is gravitating towards being a big WR.

Pocic is an incredibly talented lineman. He's also a tackle.
This is true, but Center was clearly his worst position on the line, and was the worst fit for his skill set and size. He certainly wasn't bad, but we took a guy who was a strength and made him less of strength through where he lined up.
I can understand the reasoning of putting Pocic at Center to start last year. However, if they had ANY confidence in Clapp or Dodd, the move to get him out to Tackle should have been made last season. Obviously Pocic's offseason hip surgery cost time in getting a move made this year, but there's still a pretty convincing argument to be made that it should have happened. I give Grimes a little credit for experimenting with it by mid-season this year. Even less than 100%, Pocic is a better Tackle than Tehuma. I don't see how we can expect great results from the O Line when guys aren't put in their ideal positions.
I really hope that this was all a product of Miles' meddling, and that Grimes and Canada will put the guys we have where they belong, rather than continuing to force square pegs into round holes.

Just like Ole Miss and USC were his "dream job".

A year ago, Orgeron thought he had all the good stuff mixed together — a head coaching job at the school of his dreams, the love of players he viewed as his children, the embrace of fans he adored. As a popular USC assistant-turned-interim-coach who returned fire to the program after replacing the fired Lane Kiffin on Sept. 29, he was the people's choice to lead the floundering Trojans into the future.

Ole Miss is a prestigious institution. Being a head coach in the Southeastern Conference has always been one of my dreams. I was at the point in my career where I thought I couldn't do any more at Southern Cal. I knew a couple of head coaching jobs would come open and Ole Miss has always been a school that I wanted to be the head coach at.

Because we are one of a very few teams that still recruits TEs the size of tackles (at least until now, this may change with Miles gone). Gordon would have been a Tackle almost anywhere else. Guys somewhere between DeSean Smith and Evan Engram at OM are the prototypical TE of today. They are bigger, taller WRs who can block the edge in a faster-paced offense that works on speed and quickness more than pure power.

The days of 6'6" 340 lb offensive tackle in college is coming to an end. These loads are consistently beat by 6'4" 240 lb defensive ends.
Forget what MD said. ^THIS is the truth of the situation. We have recruited guys that 90% of teams in the FBS would use at Guard today to play Tackle. A guy like Pocic, who is pretty exceptional, likely has the athleticism and quick feet at his size to handle the position against the speed rushers that we face in the college game today. The hope is that Deculus does, as well. However, the run of the mill 300+ HS O Line recruit does NOT have that kind of skill set. The average weight of LTs and TE in college is coming down, not gong up. This is especially true in a lot of spread offenses.

I am of the opinion that Pocic wasn't at tackle b/c he didn't fare well there.
I believe he was at center b/c he knew the calls and could handle the snap better than any of the guards we had/have.

If only Pete and Bill had actually been failures...
Pete was fired after on season when the coach they hired after him. Also,he had success with the Patriots. Made them worse... Bill B only led Cleveland to the playoffs...
It isn't like these two were Marty Mornhinweg, Cam Cameron, or Gus Bradley... You know people that actually failed...

Just asking a question, how many tackles left or right has LSU put in the NFL under Miles

Contrary to tRant narrative, LT isn't necessarily the most important line position unless you air raid.

And while Pocic struggled at times at centern he was a remington award finalist. The notion that he sucked at center isnt held by anyone that gets paid to evaluate olineman. He strughled some because centers that are that tall have to be extremely strong lower body because the dt will always get his hand on you first

UDFA but playing Sundays, La'el Collins left LSU as OT also.

Ah the old "they were fired so they failed"
Well now then I guess Tony Dungy was a failure in Tampa, Joe Giradi was a failure in Miami, Marty Schottenhiemer was a failure everywhere, etc etc etc...
Coaches get fired all the time for reasons other than "failing"
