re: People will look back at the offensive staff last year and not believe it

Sloan and Denbrock did a good job with polishing up JD5...but you guys gotta take a deeper dive. At ASU, Daniels had to learn under 2 different Coordinators in 3 years at ASU. Combine that with the move to LSU and a new coordinator. Coaching matters sometimes, and most times, talent always will make coaching look better than what it is. Jayden was always good (see numbers from Freshman year with the talent on offense that he had at ASU).
Lindsey reeled in top talent at DLine to USCe. And he was a recruiting coordinator before that. Coaching and developing great talent is what makes coaches good, imo. He atleast showed that he could consistently get good talent in the door. Pair that now with the talent he'd be able to recruit and develop at LSU, it's easy to see why we hired him. And he was stamped by Pete Jenkins. Soooo, he can recruit his butt off and he's a great technician...not sure what you're referring to as it being a weak hire.
Steeples - meh. I'm fine with the love/hate that he gets as the low man on the totem pole.
Cook - two back to back years with LSU Standard type safety recruits. Lost his best safety, and coached the group who was on the back end of a dysfunctional defense. I don't see how we can accurately assess what he did. I'm fine with cutting bait because it won't be hard to replace someone at DB coach...but again, look at the whole picture. The backend will only be as good as the uglies are productive.
House - meh. I don't like what we showed as a unit this year. I understand the factors, but you just gotta assume that we could have schemed to be a top 100 defense without much effort. It may be harder than I know...but oh well.

House was seen as a good dc before this season. Hell, he was on that top dcs list that was linked on here if you saw it
Yeah, that’s revisionist bullshite. He coached a top 6 defense nationally at UK before leaving for the NFL. The issues weren’t apparent then, or in year one here really.
But we saw it all this year. He’s not cut out for college football, especially post-portal. His defense requires a lot of experienced players and continuity and you just can’t guarantee that in college football now. He also lacks and kind of creativity or flexibility. He’s only average or better if everything lines if perfectly to play his over-complicated (at least for college football) scheme. And we saw that the floor for him is as low as it gets when things don’t line up.

It is pretty remarkable to see a vet like Kelly put together such a poor defensive staff.
Put a defensive staff on paper right now that you think would have made a difference with the on field talent. Let's see it....

You are laboring under a mistaken premise that the defensive coaches are responsible for the defensive recruiting. This is just not so. Coaches tend to focus on areas.
Lolwhat. So Aranda didn't recruit?

House had a unit with Harold Perkins and made him look bad, kept playing speights and his recruiting is piss poor.
