My same thought first rule of his recruiting, said player has to be at least 3” taller than coach

He's retired, shut the frick up.

No matter what you think, Mainieri had more success as the head coach of LSU than almost any other coach can say they had over that same time period.

You’d think after Les ran us into the ground and it was shown that we kept him for about a decade too long for based on both on and off field behavior and performance that folks would start to realize that building or succumbing to a cult of personality surrounding a coach (ie-making them a sacred cow that rises above their own love or support for a program) is foolish and never need happen again.

Paul Mainieri overcoached our kids. He recruited talent and wound them so tightly they never achieved to the levels commensurate with their individual and collective talent. He walked around with a resting a-hole pucker factor of 11 on a scale of 1-10. His teams behaved and achieved similarly.

He stayed too long and did not achieve on a level that our program is supported by our AD and FANBASE at. Anyone who ignores or can’t accept that is either weak minded or buys into the idea that a coach we voluntold to retire is or was bigger than our program.

That is exactly what happened with Les.

Both programs atrophied significantly while supporters focused said support on the coach and ignored their impacts on the program, which became legitimately mediocre over time.

Paul was paid fabulously for work that didn’t match up to his compensation. He was in the best job in America in his chosen profession. Ultimately he didn’t achieve based on the expectations of his job. There’s no shame in admitting that. There’s also no derision that should be aimed at anyone admitting that, either.

We need to move on. Jay Johnson needs to find his own path. There are a legion of longtime LSU Baseball admin staff and supporters that can guide him. Mainieri needs to take a long break from the program.

Conversely the program needs a long break from him.

Downvote away. Nothing I’ve said is untrue. Harsh? Absolutely. But evidently some fans need to hear it.

The dude is still getting paid by the university, I don’t think it hurts in any way shape or from that he’s giving a tour of the facilities. He isn’t game planning or recruiting for him. He’s not coaching again in any way, so there’s zero wrong with what he did or will do in the coming weeks.

Awesome video.

And screw the guy that said Mainieri should just leave. It was time for him to retire but He earned the right to stay around the program just like Skip did.

So was Les. So are lots of coaches that don’t meet expectations and find themselves out of their job before the end of their employment contract stated term.

Many are ready to turn the page from this era and look forward to an attempt to get back to the top of the mountain Paul slowly and steadily walked us down off of.

As I said, I hope he enjoys a nice long vacation from LSU. As both LSU and CPM want and need.

Wonder what his first football game night experience will be like for him.

Probably a 45-3 blowout of East Podunk School for Western Mimes that's a quarter full at kickoff.

Holy frick. You had all that to say simply because he walked him around the building?

Get a life.
