Over the next three weeks, you are going to forget what Baker did to you. Don’t.

It always happens. Time passes, we win a few games against easier teams and the positigers start to take over.

It started his very first game against USC. We tie it 20-20. Defense is playing decently, and then he goes his soft coverage and they go down and get a touchdown with 1:47 left. We lose. And then months pass. We play a bunch of easy teams, get easy wins. We do beat #9 Ole Miss even while not leading at all the entire game, hard to say Baker did anything special there. But we’re content. We’re looking at a playoff. And then what happens? We all forgot is what happened. We then proceed to give up 38 to A&M, 42 to Bama at home, and 27 to a horrific Florida team.

We then finish off the rest of the season with 3 wins against bad teams. 9 more months pass. In 2025, we go into Clemson and beat them, but we find out later their offense sucks. No one has thought about Baker’s shortcomings for probably over a year at this point. Why would you? You were preoccupied with other things. Vacations, birthday parties, raising kids. It’s natural to forget. Another month passes of easy wins until we play Ole Miss. We get a late score to keep it close. 5.5 minutes left. Can Baker get a stop? Nope. They march down 60 yards and burn up all remaining time. Loss. He then gives up 31 to fricking Vanderbilt and 50 to A&M at home. We fire Kelly but we really should have fired Baker.

In 2026, somehow people weren’t out on him yet. They forgive the Ole Miss performance even though they scored at will on us in crunch time. Why? Because weeks pass. We crush a bad A&M team. Our defensive stats through four weeks look good. Another week passes, we crush, McNeese. Another week passes, Baker is out of sight out of mind. People on this board are projecting we win by 14 at Kentucky, but oh, did they forget…

So here we are. Over the following 3 weeks, everyone here is going to forget. We’re going to beat Miss. St. They are injured offensively and we are double digit favorites at home. Auburn is absolutely horrific. Baker’s defense will look good these weeks, his stats will build back up. We’ll probably show, by the numbers, that we technically have a top 10 defense. Then we have the bye week, more time passes. People enjoy Halloween, maybe Baker is in the back of your mind, it slowly slips away. By that point, everyone on this board will have turned back into a positiger and completely forget what Baker is capable of. Hell, we will probably be beating Alabama, but then they will get the ball with a minute 45 left and two time outs, and something that hadn’t happened in over a month will slowly begin to creep into your mind. Don’t forget.

Edit: seeing some comments like “it ain’t that serious” and “it’s just football” are the same people who were crying and shitting themselves on the scoreboard forum not even 36 hours ago. Pathetic lol

If Baker can lock down Taylor (Miss St) & Russell (Bama), then I will forget

Losses to Texas and Gumpland seem assured and maybe even to Tenner. Will have beaten no team of note...again.

Sadly all of that is true.....so far. If LK is the offensive guru we all expected we hired, I would think that LK would have some words to BB about why his defense is so easy to beat, and BB and LK would change it. I blame LK as much for this mess on Defense as BB, LK is the HC of the entire team and should dictate how to play against certain offenses and situations, and tell BB what defenses he thought were the most difficult to beat . It may be happening, but not to the degree that is working. Come on LK, get involved with your defense.

All great DCs have bad games. It happens. Now Baker was given ELITE far too quickly but he is actually very smart and knows defenses and how to teach them extremely well. He just struggles with getting too cute and play calling in certain situations at times. He can either continue to learn from it or become a HC and have someone else call the plays.

Let us not forget that some are better at teaching the scheme and some are better at in game play calling. That goes for both offense and defense. I think its quite clear that Blake is better at teaching the scheme than calling the defense. Doesn't mean it will always be that way.

How can we forget Baker at the end of halves or when the game is tight? He’s given the fans no reason to be confident.

This is a good breakdown and you make a convincing case.

I honestly don’t want to go back and argue his first two seasons given how bad the defense he took over from 2023 was and how those games played out, especially last year when the offense was abysmal and we had no HC for half the season.

I’ll just say I was really down on him after the loss but re-evaluated how the game actually went and think the defense did a good enough job to win. I’ve posted in many threads about it if you care to look, but I think you seem like the kind of poster that would be open to more information and less emotional reaction, so might be worth taking another look at the game

Things are going to get tougher going forward for sure, and injuries have really made it an uphill battle to get the best from this unit. But hopefully home games will give us a bit wider margin for error in these tougher matchups.
