Outside of a little up-tempo, what exactly was different about the Georgia game?

As far as I can tell, the play-calling itself has been very similar to that game. Burrow had more time to throw, our receivers made some big plays (Jefferson got wide open and Marshall made the diving catch), and Clyde had a bunch of pretty awesome runs. But, that all seems like the execution was just much much better, not anything schematically different. I wouldn't consider myself an expert in any way on the X's and O's of football, but could someone explain to me what exactly we were doing then that we aren't doing now?

Georgia doesn’t have a good pass rush.

It's been beaten to death, but LSU's Oline was getting major push against UGA's DL all game. They haven't been able to replicate that since then.

Chunk plays, which sadly, these days are akin to a 6 yard completion on 3rd and 7.

Well, first off, Georgia turned the ball over 4 times. That's pretty terrible.

I think SE called a good game against Georgia. I'm not sure what was so different about his play calling then vs now. We were able to run the ball for 275 yards, so that helped. We could block their dline.

It's when we have issues blocking or when other teams blitz that our scheme falls to shite. I don't think our current offensive staff has an answer for it. I think teams have picked up on that now.

I agree it's a mystery.

Uga and Bama were on the same level last year and returned most of their best players. Don't know how you can manhandle one and then lay an egg against the other both at home.

UGA lost a ton of talent from their front 7 from 2017 to 2018

Kirby also got too cute and stopped running Holyfield when nobody could stop him

Bama will destroy UGA in the SECCG thus year

We were more agressive. Going for it on forth down... in my mind we were playing to put them away vs playing to not lose our lead

Georgia absolutely outplayed LSU for spurts of that game, but you cannot overcome a 4-0 turnover margin.

LSU was able to run the ball effectively and running + turnovers is a recipe to get a defense gassed / gashed late in the game.

That's what happened. Similarly, Florida kept running the ball and LSU's defense fell apart in the 2nd half against Florida.

Execution. The O line was able to keep the pocket pretty clean in most down and distance situations. We threw at least 35 passes. We were able to attack at all levels of the defense. Have to have time to do that.

Georgia's game plan was awful. From the fake FG to not running the ball enough. Then a few turnovers and it snowballed from there.

Where we ran well, we were running uptempo and read option. We were gashing UGA there with Helaire. Oh and we did a lot more read option (was the play that Burrow sprung for 60 yards).

We did a lot of throwing on first down, which almost 70% of the time didn't connect. Burrow went 4/12 for 100 yards.

123 of Burrow's 200 yards came on 3 pass plays. Of his other 27 attempts, 15 were incomplete and 12 went for 67 yards.

Technically Burrow's passing in that game was eeriely equal to the La Tech game. Only difference was that we could actually run the ball on a team for once.
