However, my point is that the product on the court and the actual value added are not $10M apart.

Well no shite. MBB will always turn a profit no matter what by just being in the SEC. WBB should just be trying not to spend money so as to come as close as possible to breaking even. Baseball can come very close to breaking even but only when we are good (greater % of the money comes from ticket sales)

The most profitable baseball season would be one where we win like 45 regular season games, host and win a regional, and then lose in 3 games in the supers.

Going to Omaha adds a ton of expenses.

agreed. and this is coming from someone whose spouse and daughter have season tickets. I watch most of the games, but that's because there is very little of that me and my 16 year old daughter bond over and this is one of those things

Women’s basketball is the biggest drain on every AD in the SEC. This isn’t a Scott Woodward deal. It’s a women’s basketball problem in general

Who gave mulkey her massive contract, wbb an outsized rev share and budget for the massive staff?

Is it like that anywhere on the conference outside of South Carolina?

Tennessee allocated their rev share very similarly to LSU with respect to WBB and baseball.

I don't know what their HC makes.

But every school is definitely overpaying relative to value. It's the high visibility of the sport. It's given a huge platform with an audience size that doesn't even come close to justifying it.

correct

S Carolina had a 6 million deficit in 24, UConn spent 12 million on WBB and made a loss despite being the first WBB program to record more than 3 million in ticket sales

it's not just LSU. all WBB teams in college lose money. the pros are getting a little bit better but still get subsidies until their new media rights deal kicks in

So is that or is it not the fault of the athletic director who made the budget with that priority in mind?

When you said "we" about virtue signaling, I was picturing the AD that made the budget with that priority in mind, so I don't see a difference between the two choices.

Ok you were responding in a chain which was someone defending Woodward when I said it was his fault for our expenses.

Took that to mean you didn’t put it at the foot of Scott.

I would imagine gate revenue and fespecially merch absolutely dwarf the same categories for women's basketball.

As far as I'm aware, baseball doesn't have a game where they give away tickets to 8,000 grade schoolers to boost the attendance numbers.

These numbers are public and easy to find.

This is for FY25 so the men's basketball numbers are probably worse and women's considering attendance is down for the men's and up for the women's teams.

Ticket Sales
Men's Basketball 2,057,646
Women's Basketball 1,605,992

Program, Novelty, Parking and Concession Sales (increased alcohol sales at men's games.)
Men's Basketball 103,321
Women's Basketball 72,830
