It's not a happy coincidence football & baseball is largely out of whack with how the rest of the country currently aligned.

As a basketball guy I used to get frustrated by this. I can remember in 2006 going 14-2 in conference and support was stil lukewarm until we made the Sweet 16.

But at some point you just have to resign yourself to the fact that it's something you can't control.

Football has and always will be king. I can remember Shaq's last year here we got a big road win at Bama and I was fired up to hear some hoops
talk on the radio the next day.

I tune in and all but one call is about football recruiting and that with a bad football team and Curley as coach.

And LSU is very unique in that college baseball matters here and matters alot. We are one of the very few schools in the country where that is the case and frankly I don't think any single school can match that passion or even come close really.

So I've resigned myself to that and try to enjoy hoops on my own terms and not let the attitude of the majority affect that.

Very excited about the tournament this week. It is huge because of the implicatons for post-season. And the players know it. See Stringers comment in the Advocate this morning.

Geaux Tigers!

but some of our fans entitlement attitude is annoying

You are being too kind. Their attitude of if you are #1, you have failed sucks and only shows how little they know about the concept of what sports are all about.

JJ can recruit and I have no doubt he will be successful. We have to see how he handles the game against the big boys before we know just how successful he can be.

It isn't baseball versus basketball, not "either-or"... It's both when it comes to support AND winning! Winning will solve a lot if the basketball Tigers can win consistently over the years like Tiger baseball! Tiger baseball is outstanding, a consistent winner in America's game!

You somewhat have a point. But this is 100% false.

Name 3 programs out of 300 where basketball is the 3rd most popular sport. You can't.

Sorry. That wasn't necessarily my point. I meant that at every university, not just LSU, people will come out to follow a program that is a consistent winner. Regardless of sport. The baseball team has been that at LSU. Remember though, that wasn't the case in the 80's. The PMAC (or just the "Assembly Center" as I still call it) was a tough place to get into on most nights, while you could almost just walk into the Box.

Most people, even baseball fans will acknowledge that college basketball is immensely more popular nationwide. If the program can get to a point were they can be an SEC and national contender year in and year out, then The Deaf Dome will be back. How do I know this? Because I saw it happen 25+ years ago.

Hell, just this past month alone I've seen more talk about Basketball than over the last three years combined. Momentum is starting to build. Now CJJ has got to produce on the court.

I just hope people tune in for a bit, if we impress during this tourney it could win a lot of fans over.

If they're watching, that is.

Everything will work itself out LSUzealot, when we won the SEC title a few years ago with Thornton and crew, I went to several games starting with that auburn game. Attendance was ok for AU, but then I went to the Florida game on Mardi Gras and it was packed that night, and then the season Finale vs Vandy and I don't know if they had very many empty seats that night. So fwiw, if we keep winning this year you will see the stands fill up more and more and then the #incline will start

HS football and baseball are huge in the Southeast. It's a lot easier to recruit locally (and be successful) in those sports than it is for basketball. Many other areas focus on basketball because they have to focus on basketball.

I like basketball plenty; I've been to more basketball than most students through my years. That doesn't change the fact that football/baseball are focused on more heavily here than in other places. It's not just an LSU problem.

I was in the dome in 81 along with 30-40 thousand other LSU fans, Those were the great days for LSU basketball,

Not sure we can ever get that back, but it was a damn strong time for round ball at LSU.

Things are sooooooo costly now that I think fans have to decide which sport they can afford to support .

I see.
I wouldnt consider it a problem. Its just life.
SOme parts of the country focus on hockey or soccer.

As you said, here it is football and baseball.
I like LSU basketball, but it takes 3rd chair behind the other two sports.

Fans will rally around what is successful. Just a lot harder to be successful in basketball

Obviously late as hell to this thread, but I agree with Zealot.

All this early baseball talk and ignoring the present is kindof annoying and faggoty.

I know I love college basketball more than baseball. I am the exact opposite of most LSU fans. It pains me when the basketball team is bad, but the baseball team I follow a lot more casually. I'll never buy season baseball tickets but got my cheap seats for the PMAC this year!
