Seen it happen; I've grabbed the pot ahead of them and poured some for the people with normal size cups first.
They don't need all 20 oz right now anyway.
I have also set up my own coffee bar in my office to avoid the shenanigans.

Coffee pot? What circle of hell do you work at? I’m offshore and we have an automated espresso machine that makes about 10 different drinks.

two things I saw in the workplace
1. one guy wants coffee stronger so he opens 1 and half coffee pouches and places in coffee maker- the other half of grounds wasted
2. coffee was made in push top caraffes- one guy just takes a whole caraffe to his office
and a bonus- new guy comes in tells coffee vendor guy to change from the roast everyone agreed on for years- to the roast he likes-- without consulting anyone--

#1 is fired for wasting company resources. I've seen #2, but he also worked in a detached building from where the coffee pot is located. It was understandable. He would make his own pot, pour it in the caraffe, bring it to his office, and keep it clean every day. #3 is fired right away.

Our CEO will pull the pot off while it is brewing to pour his cup, allowing coffee to drip all over the machine and counter...and walk off. Leaving a mess for someone else to clean up. He also will drain it without starting a new pot. Dude gives absolutely no fcks about anyone but himself.
