19' recruiting cycle and the 19' season to turn it around
Ok, define “turn it around”.
Because I’m seeing an 8-4 year, likely with a couple of ugly losses to the better teams on our schedule this year.
Then, likely another 8-4/9-3 type year in ‘19, assuming Aranda is still here.
The problem there is, then we end up with yet another “We were young! The ‘19 class is going to lead us to great things in 2020 (TWENTY frickING TWENTY for a guy that was hired in 2016)” and then the JUST ONE MORE YEAR AWAY engine gets rolling again and we waste ANOTHER year seeing if Ed fricking Orgeron is still ED frickING ORGERON or if he miraculously finally got the Head Coaching for Dummies book for his 60th birthday.
It will never end.

Can't up vote this enough.

Ed Orgeron, and his shitty career head coaching record and ZERO attempts to go back to the start at a smaller school and prove that Ole Miss was an anomaly?
To be fair, he tried as shamelessly as a two dollar hooker to sell himself to Syracuse but the Orange AD wasn’t buying

“I have a lot of respect for Syracuse,” Orgeron told Poliquin. “Great private school, great education, great tradition. So, obviously, my interest would be very high. I’d be highly interested in getting that job. I think it would be a wonderful opportunity to go back there.”
ETA: Also, just a typo I know, but you keep saying 2014, but it was 2015 when Alleva swung and missed at Jimbo

He absolutely is going to drop the ball on the 2019 class. Watch how much top talent is raided by other SEC teams, specifically Jimbo and Saban. But O pumpers will still trot out some excuse like "well we filled a lot of need!". And that is actually assuming O isn't shitcanned before signing day.

Bull fricking shite!! Name someone other than Surtain that we actually missed out on or lost to another school? So sick of hearing this shite from y'all crying arse babies!

I know what you're saying here. I get it. Yes going let's say 2-10 to 8-4, 9-3 would be a turn around. I'm talking more than that. It would have to be a legit shot at the West and playing in the SECCG. That would be my standard for retaining him for the 20' season.

Well other than missing out on Surtain, the biggest recruit in the class at a position of huge need, they also whiffed on:
James Foster - A&M
Mario Goodrich - Clemson
Adam Anderson - UGA
Ar'Darius Washington - TCU
Justin Rogers - TCU
Do you need to be reminded O signed 0 CBs and 0 QBs?
You could also go back to the 2017 class where O whiffed on Cam Akers and Travis Etienne, thereby leaving the team with weak RB depth, plus Devonta Smith, Nico Collins and Marvin Wilson (who O personally recruited).

We will all certainly be crying when the bottom falls out the program due to O's inability to bring in and retain top talent.

No doubt...but he should have started lower. Think McNeese level. If he proved himself THERE, you go looking for Syracuse level gigs. If that works out, maybe the Big Boys (like LSU) start calling.
Hard works and actually earning your way back...that I could have respected.
Instead, he did the typical Louisiana thing...use who you know and personal influence to get a job you're not qualified for, only to then start to bring in your friends to also get fat at the trough.

Yes, correct...my bad. I am talking about late 2015 and the subsequent slide that nearly lead to Miles being fired after the Arky game at home. If you're leaning that way at that point, your list HAS TO have begun in some form, and there is no good argument I can possibly entertain that would lead me to believe that Ed Orgeron's name should have been written anywhere on it, unless he snuck into the office after hours and erased a much more qualified name and wrote in his own.

This is such a weak way of looking at it.
Do you think recruiting starts and ends on Signing Day?
How many top 100 players ended up in this class? Top 200?
Did O not recruit any of those other guys?
Just because they eliminated LSU early doesn’t mean O didn’t miss on a shite ton of talent at positions all over the field.
We “filled positions of need” with lower ranked guys so that makes the class underrated? Ok, well why didn’t we “fill those needs” with the higher ranked guys at the same positions??
Because he fricking couldn’t.

We fired our previous coach because we thought we should be getting better results. So are we gonna take steps back and be ok with it? frick no!!! If he goes 7-5 after the year he had last year. He needs to hit the road.

Lawd just go ahead and list all the top 300 players then.
Foster - No shot, was never coming here!
Anderson - No shot, played LSU wasn't coming!
Washington - No shot, played LSU wasn't coming!
Rogers - No shot, never ever would he have came here under no circumstances!

LOL, as if that makes it any better

Either LSU missed out on them or didn't even have a chance, either way O failed massively.

Again...it's late 2014 and you're Joe Alleva. You've decided Miles is no longer your guy and you begin the process of looking for a replacement. If you're not an idiot, what would you do?
You start with a blank white board and a dry erase marker and you start your list of the best football coaches in America regardless of their availability in your mind. so you've got Saban, Bellichick, Urban, etc...on down the list from both college and pro, head coaches and elite coordinators. Hell...go all the way down to 100 if you want.
Dude, that sounds like a lot of work . . .

Does anyone really think that Alleva would pull the trigger on firing O? He would basically be firing himself too.
