If you think penalties are what cost us that game

They were certainly a factor. There's isn't 1 thing that generally costs a team a game.

It was so worrisome that Orgeron thought the young OL couldn't handle the shifts and changed everything up. Now, THAT decision is very reasonable to criticize.

Agreed

The staff Orgeron put together? Yup. The coaching decision he's making?

The lack of respect he commands from his assistants? Yup.

Could these not also be factors in getting destroyed by or getting beaten by inferior opponents? If the staff and players aren't on the same page, it often won't matter if you have superior athletes. I think the lack of identity and cohesiveness is a huge factor in why we've played so poorly. And don't take this to mean I'm implying we don't have issues up front. We do. But there is really nothing you can say to me to convince me that we don't have the horses to beat State and Troy with a competent gameplan and with everyone being on the same page.

How many recruiting classes did it take for Kirby Smart to get it together at GA?

I remember his first two years not being that great...
Georgia had a top 3 class last year. If we get the number 3 class I will kiss Orgeron on the mouth.

Correct! But he had everyone behind him and put together some solid classes and now they are in position to compete.

There is absolutely no reason for optimism like there was in 2000. Like I said previously, anyone who knew football knew Saban was a known commodity, a brilliant defensive mind and a guy who turned a Michigan State program in the dumps on the heels of probation into a competitive program. What has O done that even VAGUELY resembles Saban's resume pre-2000?

This is what I don't understand about the O comparisons to Saban.

Yes he did. Our DL was thin too. Plus Lawrence was out. And, then Alexander got hurt. And, Farrell was ejected. And, Key was in his first game back and very out of shape.

The DL depth is nowhere near as bad as the OL, and neither were in line to be as bad as they currently are at the time Miles was fired, but the DL has been hit by the injury/suspension bug more frequently (until last week anyway).

Moving forward im just going to completely ignore any attempt at comparing Saban in 2000 with O now. Just not worth getting into

O could have the top 3 class his first full year as well.

Like I said, if he does he'll be my new best friend. Things are not looking that way though...

Well your memory is awful, fwiw. His first class was ranked 6th, after being on the job in a new program for two months, and his second was ranked 3rd.

Well many have gone nuts over losing to Troy and Saban did lose to UAB and ULM in his first year at LSU and Bama.

What did their respective resumes look like at the time that each was hired by LSU? Hint, one reflected a young, successful coach that many agreed was likely to continue having successful stints, and one didn't. I'll leave it up to you to figure out which is which.

Is Saban the norm when it comes to what people can expect from a head coach?

Well, those of us "going nuts" over losing to Troy are capable of distinguishing separate circumstances and discerning context.

How old are you? Serious question.

I remember when LSU played and beat Michigan State in the Indy Bowl. I remember being a bit irritated by the coverage, and all the attention and love Saban was getting, as LSU whipped them. I felt at the time that the media was disrespecting our coach (Dinardo), who had returned us to a bowl. I was excited about Dinardo, LSU was winning, and the announcers were saying things along the lines of "today's not going well, but the future is very bright for Nick Saban" etc. Nary a word about Dinardo.

People knew about him then.
