Counselor, the USSC has never ruled on NIL, you are gravely mistaken. This clusterf#@k was the creation of the NCAA due to deadline pressure from California and several other States passing laws allowing NIL income for "amateur student-athletes", give credit where credit is due.

Havard Law Revien - Alston v NCAA

quote:

"Shortly after the Court’s decision, the NCAA voted of its own accord to allow a student athlete to receive compensation in exchange for use of their name, image, and likeness (NIL).7 Even after this series of changes, the NCAA still restricts the compensation that schools can provide directly to their athletes unrelated to education.8 "

Yes it did. Look we get it you’re a know it all contrarian. The fact is NIL was the entire reason NCAA 14 was the last game until this year. The whole intent is for kids to profit off of their own NAME, image and likeness. Jersey sales, advertising, autographs etc. Hell even deals with actual companies is more in the spirit of NIL then having a billionaire pay 12 million for nothing in return.

Yes they did. It’s ruining college sports. If you can’t see that you’re either really young or really naive

I love the revisionist history on here.

We didn't "all" tell you how f****** up and stupid this was going to get. Several of us did. Most of you were convinced the big bad NCAA and the Man were conspiring to keep the kids down and depriving struggling minority athletes of the right to monetize their NIL. "We" told you that you were opening Pandora's box and and there would be no way to put the genie back in the bottle, but you assured us this was the only way to insure "equitability".

Maybe there's a lesson in there somewhere?

Seriously, shame on Michigan for doing this. Not for LSUs sake, but all of CFB. The hey have made an already unstable situation less stable. And they won’t be better for it. They are forcing one 18 yo kid, on a shitty team, to be a professional and make more than most coaches. Great situation.

What ruling was this that specifically ruled on NIL unanimously?

Exactly they ran with a single concurring opinion. The actual ruling was limited and about “constitutes an athletic scholarship, allowing college athletes to receive money for school and educational supplies, such as computers.”

The NCAA had time to attempt to implement better standards and something more truly NIL that was independent of the school or team a student-athlete was on. More like what LF7 had to give up and what Olivia just turned on to her existing junior Olympic audience on social media and starting doing kart wheels or back crossovers to add a certain group. They didn’t have to allow use of school or ncaa property.

This was also 2021 when the left felt unchecked and many had pushing this kind of stuff to redistribute wealth anyway since the summer of love. California was a part of this with its law, but NCAA could have fought it or let California and others go which I think has to do with politics of the NCAA and its members’ Presidents and ADs.

The NCAA did this itself and continues to cave in every time. Transfer portal revolving door is another example. They and university presidents have complete been on board with recent settlements without pushing up to Supremes due to politics.

Let me say this, if Michigan doesn't get serious sanctions for the BU recruitment, nothing will ever happen to another school regarding NIL.

Portnoy posted a video bragging about buying Underwood with a clear recruiting inducement and pay-for-play. This is as slam dunk of a case as the NCAA could hope for. There's no ambiguity here.

Yet nothing will happen.

Well, maybe, as business owners, the want goodwill credit for securing him to Michigan which would allow them to profit off his name and image.
