Cabrera playing CF is gonna be a season long thing on here isn't it?

I don't think he's going to be in CF every game, so I don't think it will be a season long thing.

Especially in late game situations, I could see him moving to either LF or RF with Gio or Toups going in CF.

I would love that for him actually. He has had a tough couple of years!

All the bitching about Hughes before the season even starts, watch him go yard the first weekend.

His 12 extra-base hits and one career homerun in 340 at-bats suggest this will not happen.

just odd to take out one of your biggest defensive pieces, especially for a guy like Maineri

would seem like he's sick/hurt, or else they have no confidence in his bat

Do you still believe it would be weird for Cabrera to start in centerfield rather than Gio?

actually, yes, over the course of time

in a few weeks will you be around to address it?

my guess is NO

Gio must not be hitting well enough to command the start. The coach is trying to get bats into the game and thus no real surprise.

Mainieri literally said this line up is the way it is because Tommy Sommer (LHP) is the Friday starter for Indiana. It's entirely possible (probable) that Gio would be our opening day CF if Indiana was throwing a righty.

ETA: Between Friday and Wednesday we have 5 games. I would bet we see at least 4 different lineups.

Why "a few weeks"? I'm here now.

You staked your claim that Gio would be the CF starter tomorrow night. And that it would be weird if Cabrera was the starter instead.

So, once again, you're wrong. There's no need to wait a few weeks to point that out.

And, fwiw, your statement that it's "likely" Indiana will start a lefty pitcher is another example of your cluelessness.

Indiana has already announced that the starter will be Sommer, who is left-handed. No "likely" about it. Try to keep up before you post...

Is CJ Willis expected to compete for any ABs?

Understood, but if Gio was hitting well enough then he’d start just as Cabrera, Beloso and Mathis are. Apparently he doesn’t hit lefties well enough.

I havent commented once on what the lineup was going to be tomorrow night.

my comments were general, as it is ridiculous to think one player is going to play every inning at every game at the same position.

especially considering they are lefthanded

Depends on how he looks doing it. Based on the fall scrimmages, it wasn't so great, and definitely has me nervous from a defensive standpoint. Ideally you would prefer to have either Gio or Hampton there; but both will have to prove they can get it done at the plate.

But Mainieri has said that this lineup will be more expected against left handed pitching. When they see a right handed guy, then Gio will likely start, for now.

He should have been in the Northwoods League where he could have played more. Same thing has happened with other LSU guys in the past. They go to the cape and sit when they could have gone to a different league and played every day.

At least Dugas was able to leave the Cape and go to the Prospect League to get on the field.

He is neither of these things. People have already said this and the writing was already on the wall with comments Mainieri has made in interviews this week.

Overall, it is not supreme confidence; but they definitely don't if he is facing a lefty, which they are tomorrow night. Hence the reason he is not starting; but likely will on Saturday.
