If discussed already, my apology. How has the Oline fallen off so much in 2 years?

Missed evaluations and horrible development by the coaches

More talent. Extremely talented and competent center who was on the same page as the QB calling out protections.

Our offensive strategy made it very easy on Oline. Burrow was releasing sub 3 seconds 80% of the time and had great escape ability when pocket collapsed. The running game was boosted by elite passing game and Clyde's tackle-breaking ability.

You had a very very talented QB with great vision, that made the O-Line look way better. They did a good job, but the man with the football made them shine.

Center and guard play was legit. Burrow got rid of the ball very quick. After scorching Texas D teams were forced to focus on protecting against the pass versus rushing the pass. Every WR/TE/RB caught the ball when targeted, which is huge. WRs winning contested balls and a QB distributing at high efficiency forces you to allocate personnel more to coverage than anything else.

Play calling was also nasty.

Burrow made them look a lot better than they were. Teams got pressure against them a lot but Joe could find his man quickly before the pressure got home or he would be the Houdini in the pocket that he was.

4 first round draft picks and 1 second rd pick at the skill position along with 3 OL on NFL rosters with 2 starting.

This right here. Look how much better our Oline looked last week because MJ started throwing WR screens and Hots. Still a ways to go for both QB and OL but play call and execution was much improved.

MJ raised his completion % from 60 to 75 last wk. Look how much drive continuity improved.

Or…..a better question would be:

Why can’t we have a legit good o line without having to rely on an otherworldly QB to make up for their deficiencies?

Joe Burrow, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Jamar Chase, Terrace Marshall, Justin Jefferson, Lloyd Cushenberry, Damien Lewis, Sadiq Charles, Thad Moss, etc.

All of those guys masked the o line play. Also three of those 5 linemen were drafted.

I think Burrow covered a lot for any issues they had
There was nfl talent there but no true studs on that line
Cushenberry is a decent center but he also seemed to set the tone
D Lew did pancake some people that year and you had some solid depth with Magee who could play T and G
That was the year Charles missed half the games due to suspension as well

Joe Burrow was great at picking the hot route when he was blitzed. So, teams began trying to rush only 4 (and even 3) and drop the rest in coverage.

Clyde had amazing vision and agility. So, he made some yards where it was his talent that did the heavy lifting.

That line was at least incrementally better than this one (Center has already been mentioned)

It is a "team" game and as LSU plays faster and Max gets more experience, that will help this OL, too. Recall that Joe was a 5th year grad school guy. He basically was a pro in the amount of time he could devote to football and film. And, he was the GOAT

Burrow made them look better than they were but people dismiss Cush and Lewis being day 1 starters in the nfl. So the talent was clearly better. I’d say Charles was better than anyone on this current oline as well.

The biggest surprise with this year’s oline is Ingram not developing into a better player.
