On both consecutive infield popups the ball landed in the heel of the glove.

What the hell was going on at the moment?

Was the wind swirling with misty air causing the light to refract randomly making an otherwise routine flyball difficult?

Dugas is lucky the ball bounce off the heel into the pocket of the glove instead of bouncing away like it did for Thompson.

That was one of the weirdest series of college baseball plays I have ever seen. I hope the baseball gods are satisfied now.

I mean Dugas saved the 2nd one. Thompson calls for it and then loses it so Dugas charges on it, that's not his fault at all.

Buddy at the game said the sky looked exactly like it did earlier in the year when Morgan and Crews both lost fly balls in the OF. The sky plus the wind blowing real hard in had something to do with it I'm sure. Still have to make the play though.

New rule going forward. On routine fly balls use two hands especially in camouflaged skies.

Middle Infielders catch in the heel of their gloves routinely. It’s by design.

Keep in mind weather in area wasnt good so there was definitely some wind and could have swirled some at times. The flag was whipping in different directions all game every time they showed it.

I think the 2nd one was just Thompson totally lost it and Dugas had very little time to get underneath it making it a bad looking catch but still a catch at least.

There’s no excuse for dropping that popup. He just got lazy.

Dude shut up with the “catching a ball in the heal of the glove”. Under NO circumstances do you do that on purpose. But I guess you played left end of the bench in tee ball.

The wind was definitely a factor, but all fielders should use 2 hands to catch fly balls when possible.

field in the heel, not necessarily catch popups in the heel.

Don't call it until it's at the Apex.

When do to much "casual" BS on routine plays sometimes.

Glad to see all the fielding coaches are out in full force today.

1 hand, 2 hand, red hand, blue hand......doesn't matter. He wasn't under the ball or in position for any of it. He is a college SS and will make that play more times than not. Wasn't good conditions, but no excuse for it to happen. Thankfully won the game and now we move on.

Based on the number of downvotes, confirms a lot of LSU baseball “fans” don’t know shite about playing baseball.

Tell me why in the blue frick would an infielder learn to catch a pop up with the heel of their glove

We aren’t talking about fielding a grounder and getting the ball out quick, we are talking pop ups

Have you seen a high level infielders glove? There basically isn’t a pocket and that’s by design. 85% of the rantards couldn’t field a pop fly ina middle infielder’s glove.

There is definitely a pocket. It is designed to catch a baseball in the palm where the pointer finger knuckle meets the hand. Not sure what you are trying to say with the heel of the glove thing.

Dugas literally ran in at the last second because Thompson couldn't find it. If Dugas would have dropped it I would not have blamed Dugas for that. Thompson should not have called for it as quickly as he did because that made Dugas stay clear. But the wind was swirling and those plays happen. Just glad Dugas saved the second one from landing on the dirt.

Anyone notice that after the catch Dugas looked at Thompson and started saying something to him? He didn’t look happy.
