but overall I think he is as dumfounded as all of us with the pitching staff.

So he should let Wes man the wrap up show and explain the pitching dumpster fire...

Everything is easier in hindsight. The man has led 2 different teams to the CWS. He knows what he’s doing.

It’s on the coaches to put them in the correct spots and use them properly.

That’s hard to do when you do g know what you are going to get from each outing.

But this board thought mainieri was horrible too

He was! For most years wouldn't bunt in late inning, 1 run games, trouble making pitching changes, played his "gut" to exclusion of playing baseball percentages, & never recruited well enough consistently to be a top 5 team.
Give JJ another year or two and we will be as good as we thought we were two months ago.

Roundly overrated. I have a 4. Omaha or unemployed seems fair at this point.

10, fricking 10!!!! I think he has done his best coaching over the last two weekends. I think Fat boy that’s in charge needs to give him a raise.

So far 3.5.

-Has he won a challenge this year?
-He seems soft when addressing umpires.
-His on the field demeanor lacks confidence
-His ability to evaluate talent is suspect.
-His pitching coach hire is a joke.
-Pitching coach should be immediately terminated.

His head down demeanor is awful and unacceptable....

I said the same thing, but I did notice recently that he keeps his clipboards on the top step of the dugout. Sometimes I think the head down is him looking at those.

I’d give him a 5 as the jury is still out on what this team can accomplish. It was time for a refresh as Mainieri had become stale and seemingly looked uninspired. I feel like JJ has a lot of potential but we are on a downward trend the last few weeks and am hoping they get it turned around. Maybe a bigger drop in the rankings will be the kick in the pants they need.

I think we miss a lot of opportunities to plate runs with small ball tactics and our bullpen has been so inconsistent this year. The last two rubber matches have been laughable how inept our pitching looks.

I still think Jay is a great coach. Lets not forget how great he did last year managing a weak pitching staff.

Great?

We traveled for a regional and lost to Southern Miss twice in a row when we needed one win to advance.

Let’s not forget he had a batting lineup of Crews, Berry, Doughty, and Morgan. He had Bianco at the plate in one of the most important at bats of the season while he wouldn’t play Gio, who last time I checked was hitting .300 in the ACC this season.

No one at LSU would consider last season a great job. You could get by with “okay job”.
