They are legally U of Louisiana-Lafayette. All other schools in the state need to threaten a lawsuit if they violate the law.

But he didn't say U La La.

Yeah, but most around Laffy call it UL. My son and his wife are recent graduates of UL. On the campus, all the signs say "UNIVERSITY OF LOUISIANA" in huge font and at the bottom, "at Laffayette" in tiny font.

They crafted legal get arounds.
The academic Institution needs to adhere to ULL in formal areas. However, the athletic sports enterprises are not obligated to the same.
Their SID worked out agreements with tv/media to be referred to as Cajuns, Ragin Cajuns, Louisiana or Louisiana's Ragin Cajuns.
I don't know why anyone at LSU would be concerned. ULM may have a beef, but they were slow to the punch,so oh well

ULM is dead to me. My degree reads NLU (Northeast Louisiana University) and the mascot was the Indians. They took the name and the mascot..... When my daughter went to "ULM" I finally quit saying "NLU" only because I got tired of her rolling her eyes every time I said "NLU."

Actually it was originally named the Southwestern Louisiana Industrial Institute (SLII), according to the 1898 legislative act that created the school on July 14. I’m a USL graduate, I wish it had stay USL TBH.
