OM 2 point conversion

Imagine how confident you have to be to go for two in that situation... up six with over six minutes left in the game. And it wasn't even hard for them. Three guys side by side could have run through hat hole. Ole Miss dominated us for 3 quarters. Physically, and from a scheme standpoint they knew we weren't a threat. Game was one errant Chambliss pass from being 38-17 or worse.
It's a long season and we can be a good team but the schedule doesn't give us much time to improve or 8-4 is real possibility.

Well when they took direct snap and ran up the middle it worked every time. So why not?

I’d say that speaks to how much confidence they had in their defense. LSU went down the field and got into the redzone again, only for Leavitt to airmail a pass way left of his open TE.
Dominated only to win by one score. If the team does just a few things right like the guards actually getting some blocks here and there or Sam not missing open receivers several times, the game goes the other way or at least into OT.
LSU lost. Made mistakes. It sucks. But they were still in it to the end even though tons of things went wrong.

Changed the whole outcome of the game. From an analytics standpoint it makes perfect sense...you likely will each have possession once more. If you go for 2, you force the opposition's position in the game. If you miss it, you likely get the ball back once more anyway and play a two-for-one. Most coaches don't use these analytics. I wonder though if they really would have snapped it had it not been for the offsides x 2.

Not so sure they would have tried it. I think he gambled we’d jump, and our DL gladly complied…..twice. Trying that conversion without the penalty would have been insane.

They went for it because they knew Lane would go for 2 if we scored after. They were thinking ahead and beating him to the punch

That defense is going to cost them a trip to the SECCG. Against both ranked opponents, their defense blew 2nd half leads of 17 and 14. They were two bad passes away from giving up the lead.
They remind me of 22 Bama whose whole game plan was “Maybe Bryce will bail us out.” Insert Chambliss for Bryce and you have 26 Ole Miss.

Rule change needs to be made. That’s simulating the snap via motion in an attempt to draw the defense off sides. I’m fine with drawing them off with voice inflection, but you get one clap. More than that without a snap should be a penalty.

This. It was a strange decision considering you’re at home and TC in overtime would have been unstoppable.
But we bailed them out with the offsides and it was an easy conversion.
Think Pete wanted to make a statement, but if they didn’t make that and we go down to score and win with an XP he NEVER lives that down.

I think the plan was to only go for it if they could draw us off sides. Which they did twice...

They were not trying to go for 2 at first. They were trying to draw them offsides to get ball and 1.5 yard line then go for 2.
If LSU wouldn’t have jumped, they would have just taken the penalty and kick an extra point from 5 yards deeper which will still be a guarantee make with their kicker.
More teams need to adopt this strategy, we did this every time we scored a few years ago for the high school I coach at when we had an automatic kicker. I’d say we got the opposing team to jump offsides 70% of the time.

It was the smart move. Even if they don’t convert and LSU drives for the go-ahead TD, they’re still only down one with time left.

When you get 2 consecutive offsides penalties on LSU and the ball is on the 1 yard line that helps your confidence

It was a smart decision.
If they make it the best we can do is tie. If they miss, they have two paths to victory - keep us out of the end zone, or get the ball back and get into FG range against Baker's prevent victory defense.
