Our Lady of the Lake plans to build a $100 million sports medicine institute on LSU’s campus—but only if LSU’s proposed $428 million arena project comes to fruition.
That’s according to E.J. Kuiper, president and CEO of the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System, who tells Daily Report that the facility will be a “one-stop shop” for athletes of all stripes, offering athletic training, imaging, orthopedics, physical therapy, education and research opportunities for LSU students and faculty and more.
Kuiper says the proposed facility is in part a response to a common frustration in the local athletic community.
“We’ve heard quite a bit in the community that while all of these services are available, it’s kind of fragmented,” Kuiper says. “You have to go to three or four different places to seek these services. This will really be a center of excellence, a destination point and a one-stop shop. You’ll be able to get all of that help at the sports medicine institute.”

The project, however, is contingent on LSU moving forward with its arena plans. The facility would be built adjacent to LSU’s arena on the LSU Golf Course site.
“We believe LSU’s campus is the ideal location for it,” Kuiper says. “You could theoretically put it somewhere else in town, but you’d lose some of the symbiotic nature of the building because you have Tiger Stadium there, you’re going to have the new arena there, you have all of these sports facilities there. We believe it’s the optimal geographic location.”
As for financing, Kuiper says his organization will shoulder much of the cost but does expect some help on the fundraising side.
“We’ll fund a substantial portion of it,” he says, “but I know the LSU Foundation is looking at fundraising opportunities. … I believe this one will be a relatively easy one to raise funds for because it’s so exciting.”
According to Kuiper, the plan is to time construction so the facility opens alongside LSU’s arena in the fall of 2029. It’s worth noting that OLOL is also in talks to pay up to $50 million for 10-year naming rights to the arena.

They’ve been talking about closing that shitty golf course for ages… just do it already

Now bulldoze the section 8 on the other side of Tiger Land and that area of town will have a revival!
I am jealous of future LSU students that can party at Fred's then walk a block to basketball games.

loved playing it during my time at LSU. It is a shame students won't have it but it was in much better shape back then

This is a great way to provide additional resources to the sports performance guys on staff, S&C coaches, trainers, etc. Could help with sport specific things like the pitching lab as well.

This is actually great news.
Not sure if this means they will purchase and bulldoze all the S8 housing behind Fred’s but it needs to be done ASAP.
That area has so much potential and a new arena and a medical facility is leaps and bounds better for BTR than what we have now

If all that happens it will be time for some Imminent Domain and open some roads up.

Wasn't LSU planning to turn the golf course into lakes and walking paths? What happened to that plan?

not a ton more they can fit tech wise into the pitching lab other than the new intended zone tech but it could really help on the research side and AI learning on top of what they already have integrated with the newt force. also would give them room to add a proteus or get the school to spring for one in the strength facility which would certainly help and also some voltra 1's to help with testing.
I owuld love to see this though just from a research standpoint. Would love for LSU to build upon what pennington is already doing and for LSU to become top 5 school for Research when it comes strength and performance.

Resources doesn't just mean more tech to be put in the actual lab itself.

Anybody know when they are going to vote on the new arena?

The golf course backs up to Brightside farm, they could easily do both with all the land.

Better docs too, players agents utilize this as a recruiting tool

Hopefully they can break ground on this arena soon so we can finally decide to restart the basketball program.

Wouldn’t this create some pissed-off MD’s, Physical Therapy & other medical providers of student-athletes?
They might consider dropping their NIL money if their patient pipeline gets cut-off?
