Racism, Ole Miss loves the old south and the old south does not love african americans.

Ole Miss had idiots on campus just last week threating african americans.

Ole Miss has made progress, I will admit that, but they are way behind Miss State when it comes to welcoming all people.

Some of the old hard liners would rather lose than give up the racist ways.

Okay...and there was African Americans threatening white people as well. That went both ways.

Ole Miss welcomes anybody that has the money to attend the university. Just like every other campus in the United States.

Ole Miss won 5 titles in 10 years. They haven't won a title since that stretch, and that ended in 1963. Perhaps there is no demise, just a brief aberration of one decade in which Ole Miss was good. The question isn't "why did they decline?" but "why did they have one spectacular decade?"

not in 1962 and Johnny Vaught was no Bear Bryant....hell, Vaught basically left south Mississippi to LSU for recruiting....

(then again the so-called "elite" schools were ethnically discriminatory.....)

however, Ole Miss seems to be stuck in the 1960's in a lot of ways.....

Walk around the campus and rethink that. Ask any African American student...athletes included, and they will tell you that it is nothing like people make it out to be.

And in 1960s, there were a lot of schools not allowing African Americans through their doors. Especially in the South and out West.

And going back to our mascot, from dixie with love...James Meredith was one of the main people opposed of getting rid of it. Said there was no reason to get rid of it that those were not racist unless you wanted to find trouble in it.

Firing David Cutcliff didn't help. If he came to LSU as the Head Coach, I wouldn't be upset. (not a Miles bash, just a hypothetical). Shitty Athletic Department making the decisions over there IMO.

The thing about David Cutcliffe though...he was a lazy recruiter. Now that could be because Pete Boon didn't give him a budget worth a flip.

But yes, we should have gave Cutcliffe a little more time. I think they gave him an ultimatum. Get rid of certain staff members or we will fire you. He refused, so Boone fired him. Boone wasn't the smartest man. That definitely showed when he hire Ed Orgeron as Cutcliffe's replacement.

Some other factors not fully mentioned:
a) OM for the longest time played their big games in Jackson. IMO, this allowed them to neglect VH to a point. May not be the case anymore but they've had to play catch-up.
b) Bad HC hires (Sloan, Orgeron, Nutt). Not sure what happened to Brewer (seemed like a good HC).

3. It's a small state that they have to split with MState. Should be a one state school.

Buge part of it. Smaller population than La, and can't recruit nationally.

Was a good coach, but he was also the reason Ole Miss came close to getting the death penalty in the mid 90s.

That's a load of shite. I'll give State that they have a better fanbase than the Golden Eagles do.

The high schools of Mississippi are killing Ole Miss. Half of the top 40 recruits in the state don't qualify. A lot of the good schools are on the coast and those kids are a lot closer to LSU than they are Ole Miss or State. The schools in the delta are a disgrace.
