I was unaware that there was a strength of factor segment to determining the SEC West representative in Atlanta. If there was, then Ole Miss would have no shot because they don't play Florida, UGA, or Tennessee. Knowing that they get to play the weaker of the SEC East teams, and LSU has to play the best two SEC East teams, I want Ole Miss to lose as many games as possible until they are eliminated from making the SEC championship game.

But what if LSU has 2 losses this year, but beats Ole Miss and Bama (which is much more likely than them being undefeated or with 1 loss)? Wouldn't it be nice for Ole Miss and Bama to also have a couple of losses, so that we win the tiebreaker against them?

So, you think an undefeated SEC champ is going to be left out of the NC game this year? Over who? An undefeated Penn St or Cal?

LSU needs to win the SEC West first and foremost,
once again, lsu can beat highly ranked opponents AND make it to atlanta. we want the BEST POSSIBLE scenario. even if lsu does happen to lose, it's better to lose to a higher ranked opponent

How do you get to Atlanta if that highly ranked opponent is in the SEC west? If you still manage to get there, thats saying that highly ranked opponent must have lost at least 2 other games (compared to LSU's one loss vs that team). In that case they wouldnt be ranked that highly anmore would they, and thus, would not look as good as you're expecting when the end of the season comes around.

This reminds me of the old saying

I think they focus on winning the west first (good that Ole Miss lost),
people, if ole miss beats an east team, lsu can still win the west. if lsu beats all west opponents, lsu goes to atl. if lsu beats highly ranked west opponents, all the better. BEST POSSIBLE scenario

Best possible scenario is not always the most likely scenario. And in this case, probably close to the impossible scenario. Our team just isn't good enough to run the table. We couldn't do it in '03 or '07.

Keeping this in mind, I like the fact that we got a little help because we sure will need it.

sos affects ranking. ranking is a tie breaker. ties in standings are common.

once again, even if ole miss beats an east team, lsu can still win the west by controlling their own destiny

Its always good for Ole Miss to lose. They are in the west and compete directly with us for the SEC. On the other hand, they were way way overrated. 4th in the AP my arse. Just like Alabama (who we really outplayed last year) the Tigers will stomp them. I was embarassed for Snead, Ole Miss AND South Car. Both teams looked sloppy. Say what you want about the Tigers early struggles, the Rebels and Gamecocks are not on our level. Neither should be in the top 20. And I'll take JJ or JL any day over Snead.

you're talking after the fact. right now is not after the fact. ole miss losing is not the best possible scenario AT THIS TIME.

we could some up with "what if's" all day

This tie breaker is pretty far down the list. The first time it was EVER used was last year with the TT, OU, UT situation.

So you're saying we're going to beat Alabama, Ole Miss, Auburn, Florida and Arkansas? I just can't see that happening. Not with this team.

For what? National Rankings? I have news for you. We don't win the SEC, it really won't matter where we're ranked.
