Ole Miss fans in their suits waving their rebel flags when the Ole Miss band played Dixie.

The entire University of Southern Mississippi Marching Band used to SING Dixie after every home game?

We had always heard that they did this, so me and some of my Tiger Band buddy's drove up to Hattiesburg for a USM games on a Saturday when the Tigers were playing on the road and we weren't going to the game. I remember LSU was playing Colorado that weekend, so we had that Saturday off.

We attended the USM game and anxiously waited for it to be over.

We knew their Band was going to sing it, because we asked a few USM fans and they confirmed that the Band does indeed sing Dixie.

After the game was over, they DID sing it and it was AWESOME!

Growing up all my life in Mississippi as an LSU fan this week means a lot. Les miles came to Jackson I think 2005 for a taf deal and an old woman stood up and said “ coach for us fans in Mississippi you can’t lose to ole Miss and state.”
My 3 hardest losses are Alabama ole Miss and state.

Geaux to hell ole Miss!

Before 2005, LSU was legally required to accept any Louisiana resident who wanted to attend, who had a high school diploma or GED. This was a state law for all public universities in Louisiana, and why they all offered remedial classes until the allowance of minimum standards in 2005.

Well whoever told you this is full of shite. There were plenty of kids that didn’t get into LSU in the late 90s early 2000s.

LSU was a core 2.0 plus test scores. A school like SLU was any grades and any test scores, but you would have to take 0 level classes if your grades weren’t good.

My mistake, it was indeed 1989 when that was changed, at least for LSU (I think for the rest of the schools). This is what I get for believing Google's AI. I was out of college by then, but I did recall that it was the case when I was in school. There was a push by several of the state universities(definitely LSU, USL, and La Tech were pushing for that) to allow them to quit wasting resources on remedial classes and trying to remediate students who would end up dropping out.

It was a University staff member, but it was in the 80s. As I said earlier, I made the mistake of relying on an AI response.

Not in my experience. Just the opposite. My wife despises one fanbase alone, and it is Moo State.

They are a wannabe school. You have to be about 60 or older to remember this as a real rivalry.

They have been good at times haven’t won the sec since the early 60s.

That’s pathetic.

I can truly attest to this and was just thinking that this week. My brother and sister went to OM, while I attended LSU. I was with her this weekend and it blew my mind how much it was on her mind, like obsessively. To the point, when she wasn't around, my AU friends, were like damn! She is amped for your game! They are SO desperate to win this game, as usual, and I think we know how this story ends. Guess we will see, but yes....talk about renting a shite ton of space in OM fans heads right now lol.

The LSU Ole Miss game is a great rivalry. It is and should be important to both fan bases.

This is almost as funny as the 1967 National Championship Tennessee has posted in their stadium because the Litkenhous rating system awarded them one that year. The Vols finished 9-2 that year

In 1963 Ole Miss was SEC champions, not national champions. That banner is for the SEC champion title, not national.

of course it is, I'm not debating that, I'm just pointing out the folly of both claims. I cut and pasted incorrectly I was really referring to and comparing Ole Miss's 2003 West Title claim to Tennessee's 1967 National Title claim in their respective stadiums.

2nd worst road game I’ve ever attended - drinks were thrown in our section the entire game (from Student Section)

Well - they won the SEC Western division in 2003 and they have a banner in their stadium to prove it.

They sure are - just don't tell them that they finished in a tie that banner year over 2 decades ago and lost the tiebreaker because of a head to head loss to LSU.

Doesn’t surprise me one bit. They cracked Katrina jokes vs Tulane one year in baseball and got eliminated by them. It was a beautiful thing to see. I hate Ole Miss. please don’t lose this game
