That 4th down stop by Billy Cannon actually proved to be more of a "play of the game" than the punt return. He played both ways and failing to make that stop, The Fighting Tigers lose.

Based on the LSU helmet number and the fact there are no stripes at the end of the sleve, the bottom picture is mid sixties to no later than 1967. First game with stripes at the end of the sleeve was the 1968 Sugar Bowl vs Wyoming. Number 30 could be Sammy Grezaffi.

Those look like the pics they used to have at the old Wesley's Restaurant in BR. It got torn down a good 25 years ago so probably nobody remembers it anymore.

It looks like the guy closest to the camera in pic 1 has an M on his helmet. I'm thinking ole miss or Minnrsota

I thought so, too. Could have been Missouri in 1978 (LSU has never played Minnesota in football, BTW). Folks are saying it was USC 1979 - I just don't see it with that helmet, although the stripes look right.
(ETA: Ole Miss never had a big M on the helmet - MSU did, at various times, including a MS and MSU in block letters like that - and specifically 73 through 85 is consistent with what appears to be an M in the top picture - the stripes don't look right, with MSU typically having 2 stripes up at the shoulders - I can't find good pictures of their jerseys for the 70s.)

The first photo looks like the uniform that Miss. St. wore in those days. Texas A&M also wore the same style jersey until 1974. My guess is MSU, because we weren't wearing that style helmet until 1978 or 79.

Not Wyoming in the last picture. They had a cowboy on the helmet. Number 30 is either Grezaffi or Craig Burns.

I know this picture is not Wyoming. What I was pointing out is that the 1968 Sugar Bowl vs Wyoming is the first game that the LSU jersey had stripes on the end of the sleeve. Therefore, the picture had to be before that as there aren't any stripes or piping on the end of the sleves. The number font on the helmet was used between 1965 and 1971 so the time frame of the picture has to be between 1965 and 1967. Grezaffi was a senior in 1967 and the 1966 Ole Miss game was played in Tiger Stadium which is where this picture was taken. This would have been Grezaffi's junior year. I have LSU football programs for each year dating back to 1957. Based on a review of those programs, it appears this picture is from the 1966 Ole Miss game in Tiger Stadium.

I absolutely remember Wesley's, I believe in the old Broadmoor shopping center. Great pizza and I remember all those pictures. Great, great memories. In the 1970s for me.

The bottom two pics are from the 1959 LSU-Ole Miss game. We've already established that earlier in the thread: Rebel QB Doug Elmore being stopped at the goal line, and Rebel Left HB George Blair. Did you not notice the clue at the bottom of the middle pic that says "1959 LSU - Ole Miss Game"?

Don't think bottom picture is not from the 1959 LSU - Ole Miss game. The number font on the LSU helmet in the bottom picture is different from the middle picture. Bottom picture has a block number which was used between 1965 and 1971. The middle picture LSU helmet numbers are more rounded and were used from 1958 to 1964. Ole Miss used the same helmet style from 1958 to 1968 so using the Ole Miss helmet to determine the date of this picture is probably not the best indicator.

You have to compare the same numbers to determine if the font is different. Or be the worlds leading expert on fonts.

It's chicken and egg - if he doesn't score the points, the goal line stand is irrelevant. The Ole Miss defense was stingy as hell back then.

Here is a link to the '59 LSU Ole Miss game. Last play begins at 3:05, too blurry to see the numbers but the angle of Cannon's tackle appears to coincide with the second photo.
