You think its retarded because you want someone to give you a pass in the stadium for being obscene. In an earlier post, I pointed out that there is a difference between profanity and obscenity...if you cant see the difference then you're beyond help.
You're saying its ok to say STTDB in certain situations but not in others. My point is its not ok ever.

If you had a pre-teen daughter and she started singing this chant and jiving to the music how would you react?

Here's the deal. The issue isn't whether students chant obscenities or profanities, whether individually or as a group.

The issue that led to the banning of all the songs is the impression that Tiger Band, an official spirit organization of Louisiana State University, is leading the chants. Neither Tiger Band, nor LSU, can allow that perception to exist for very long.

There is no way students will ever get this through their collective brain.

LSU fans are well known around the conference as very, how shall we say, spirited. Part of that is foul language, and many people accuse us of trashiness as a result. I know that doesn't apply to everyone, but there is some truth to it. The university cannot in any way be seen as advocating that type of behavior. The PR mess that would create is too damaging.

So, chant your chants, cheer your cheers. But don't be surprised when Tiger Band and the administration decide to not participate.

You DON'T CARE that visiting fans, bowl officials, media, first-time visitors to Death Valley who are here because it's on their 'bucket list', national press, visiting university administrators, alumni, etc. think less of LSU because of the current caliber of students going there ???

You DON'T CARE that a traditional LSU song played since the 1930's is unceremoniously dumped because some students think it's funny to disgrace THEIR OWN SCHOOL ???

Jesus Bedpan Christ man, we may have chanted some off color cheers in the late 80s and early 90s, but not anywhere as offensive as "STTDB".

If your aim is to show America that LSU is the "STTDB" school, then congratulations. You should feel so proud and alive and invigorated.

It seems like the students think the admin is some kind of parental monster, trying to police the use of bad words. "OH Noooo - the students are cursing.." In reality, I don't think they really give a shite whether people curse or not. I always laugh, because STTDB is funny to me. I don't yell it in Sec 100/101 because there's a bunch of kids around. And plus I'm not a retard.

But the reality is this. It's so descriptively audible that everyone on national television can hear what the students are saying. So the people in charge aren't trying to punish anyone, or really go after anybody. It's more than likely just "Hey, go tell the band not to play that anymore."

Bottom line - enjoy it for Furman. Should be a good time.

Yes. I would most definitely be a hypocrite if we had yelled "STTDB" in the student section from '87 to '92.

But, we didn't. If you equate "STTDB" on the same level as "Bama, Bama, Bama won't you bite my arse" and the "Kick their arse" at the end of the "Geaux Tigers" cheer, then you are truly beyond help.

And no, we never yelled "a-hole...a-hole" when Tiger Rag was played after we scored a touchdown. Yes, we did the 'laugh' along with TGBFTL, but we didn't yell anything.

That's why the band actually "PLAYED" Tiger Rag, which they stopped in the 2000s.
