Dear God...

LSU Athletics and TAF are AUXILIARIES...

Exc use me, I know that I currently live in Alabama and have for two years, but when was LSU declared the premiere football program in the nation? I would think that Florida, Alabama, and a couple of other programs would have something to say about that. We must not get the news here in Alabama but since when does last seasons record warrant the title of premiere football program in the nation?

At what point do we find out if the logistics of this are even possible from athletics?

I know e-mails have been sent out, but someone might actually want to go talk to them if this is something that everyone is serious about.

I'm sure LSU will either email some of us back or their will be a public announcement this week on one of the local TV stations as the LSU AD starts to get calls from WBRZ and WAFB. I'm thinking things will start to get a little clearer by week's end.

Budget cuts, man. Blame it on the new scoreboard.

Facilities that are receiving the improvements are the ... the LSU Soccer Complex, the LSU Natatorium, Bernie Moore Track Stadium, Dub Robinson Tennis Stadium and Tiger Stadium. The package includes nearly a dozen new integrated video displays, each engineered with Daktronics’ light emitting diode (LED) technology. In all, approximately $7.2 million worth of video and messaging display improvements will be made to LSU athletics facilities.

Yeah, if they would have only told us back in Nov 2008 that we had to choose between the band and a new video board for the tennis courts, I think this would be a non-issue now.

If I were going to Seattle, and if I had spent the cash outlay to get there that is undoubtedly being spent, I should be very pissed if the Athletic Department said--again, using the whiny voice here--"Geez guys, we had to make cuts somewhere, you understand, don't you?"

This is what will gall people the most. There are Tiger cruises to Alaska through LSU and many, many Tiger faithful are making this a big vacation trip spending several thousand dollars. Now they are being told LSU couldn't afford to bring the band. We're dropping a couple of grand for this trip and it is pissing me off.

I sent them an email... awainting a response. I will update if and when I get a response. I emailed everyone on your list.

This is what I sent:

It has just come to my attention that the Golden Band from Tigerland may not be making the trip to Seattle for the LSU vs Washington game. I would like to officially state my protest if this is in fact true. I am personally spending a few thousand dollars for this trip and have been looking forward to it for over a year. The band is an integral part of the LSU football experience and should not be taken for granted. I believe I speak for most LSU fans making the trip that we want the band there even if it is a smaller 50 man pep-band.

I believe the new ESPN television contract will be more than enough to pay the small price to get a few band members to Seattle.

Again, as a paying season ticket holder for 11 years and a fan lucky enough to get tickets to Seattle, I am spending my hard earned money in the excuse you call the recession and I not only expect the band to be present but demand it.

If you have planned not to send the band since last year, you should have stated that to the fans buying the tickets as it may have impacted or changed their away game destinations for this year.

Yours truly,
an LSU fan not making an excuse to support the Tigers.

Coldduck - Excellent. I'm pissed that they waited until the tickets were sold to make this announcement. They waited until now to make this announcement and this should have been done no later than April of this year. Regardless, many of us are spending our hard earned money, quite a bit of it actually, to make this trip and we want as much of an LSU atmosphere at this game as we have grown accustomed to over the years.

To be honest with you I don't believe the band warrants a trip to Washington. Call me a dick but isn't the band a bit overrated and all that would be doing is throwing money down a hole from the athletic department point of view. I don't believe the band is gonna "help" us beat a last year 0-12 team. Also that is a lot of tickets that we are probly getting our fair share of the money from

Give fans the options of tacking on $5 on the cost of tickets. Not every fan will accept that option, but I'm sure we can get about $30,000 at least from 6,000 fans or so. I mean, aren't there over 10,000 people going?

I'm under the impression that we aren't asking the AD for the money, people are going to try and raise it, or possibly get a match from the AD.

IMO, I think spending thousands to fly a gymnastics team on a private jet is a waste of money too. Fiscal responsibility isn't really in question here.

I see where your coming from, I have always loved when the band came marching on the field. I just am looking at it from a athletic department point of view. I feel that the band is just considered one of those aspects of the AD that they would rather not have to deal with year in and year out. The band doesn't pull in as much if not any of the revenue that all the sports do. Maybe if they wanted to go so bad they would try and find a way of paying for all the expenses
