No chance Crews Skenes or Lankford is there.

There’s a lot of speculation that the Pirates will go with Clark to save slot money for other picks. If so, one of the other 3 will be there at #4.

Whoa whoa whoa. I never melted about the team. I DID melt about having to wait 7 extra hours in the beautiful weather for Skenes to start vs Kentucky. What else are you referring to?

You were melting about how the LSU fans in Omaha sucked are were quiet while you were there yet posting on here.

Wait i thought Milazzo has another year of eligibility does he not?

He does, but he barely played at all while Neal was healthy. I’m not even sure he started a game, even midweek. I thought Jay was overworking Neal a bit, but it was obvious he wanted to get him as many ABs as possible to get ready for SEC pitching. I’m sure Milazzo would be welcomed back, but I don’t think he’d play as much as he did this year barring injury.

And I’m not sure he hasn’t hit his ceiling offensively. Doubt he could improve much, if any, at the plate. To his great credit, he improved more from last year to this as much as anybody and more than I thought possible, though. And he caught the championship winning game in Omaha. Good game to go out on.

But I have no idea what his pro prospects are. His defense plays on the pro level, but his bat just doesn’t. He’s too small and has zero pop. He was barreling up juiced balls with a metal bat and still barely getting it out of the infield. Him hitting better pitching with a wooden bat is just not happening.

BUT, that’s not to say he doesn’t have a pro future. There are 4 levels of pro ball before the bigs. Do teams use late draft picks on guys to be backup catchers in their farm system knowing he doesn’t realistically have a shot to make the bigs? Think what you want about Moscona, but he did mention once that someone said he could eventually have a future as a bullpen catcher on a big team and make a few hundred K. But I don’t know the route to that.

Please don’t mistake this for me ragging on Alex. He was a great Tiger, and we wouldn’t have won the CWS without him. He’s just a weird prospect, and I have no idea what clubs think about him. But if he has any professional aspirations, I think he’s gone. Even if he doesn’t get drafted, he could go play in an independent league and hope he eventually catches on somewhere. But if he doesn’t and wants to come back and finish his degree and don the LSU uniform one more season, I’d love to have him back. Regardless, I hope the best for him and wish him nothing but success in whatever he does.

What round will Tommy White get drafted and is Morgan coming back?

What's the weather like in Baton Rouge so we know if we can expect rain delays in Seattle?

Will Skenes' new team pitch him tomorrow? If not, their coach should be fired.

Your post is on point. It's pretty clear that Neal is the catcher of the future. Milazzo has leverage in that he can start his pro career if he wants or return to LSU. Whatever decision he makes Johnson will back him up.

Seems to be waning. Looking like Langford if they go with a bat or Skenes. MLB guys wrote a couple of hours ago that it would be a shock if either Crews, Langford, or Skenes made it to four. Those three are going Top 3. Order TBA.

I agree with former Reds GM Jim Bowden and MLB’s Dan O'Dowd, that not drafting Skenes would be a huge mistake by Cherington.

Bowden says Pittsburgh can’t sign elite frontline Aces on the free agent marketplace, and their farm lacks the multiple trade pieces to do so too.

Plus, all these former GMs and analysts say there has rarely been such quality at the top of the draft in near guaranteed track record talent, along with Crews, Langford, Lowder, Dollander,etc..

Most analysts have Skenes behind only Strasburg as the best Pitcher they’ve seen in the last thirty years. Ahead of Prior, McDonald, and Van Poppel,etc..

Depending on what Neal’s injury is/was it may take a while for him to come back at a high level. Back injuries aren’t the easiest to overcome, especially as a catcher.

Neal is playing summer ball right now and hit a home run the other night. I don’t think there’s anything to worry about long term at this point.

He's already playing in summer league. That suggest that he was healed enough to be able to play towards the end of the season, but the emergence of Milazzo and Travinski made that not necessary.

If his back was a concern, he wouldn't be playing right now.

Those two things contradict each other. If a team feels he can be a great defensive catcher at the MLB level, then his bat will not come into play. The fact that he showed big improvements at the plate only helps.

See the posts above mine. He wasn’t rushed back and had plenty of time to rest.

He’s fine.

Not really. Pro doesn’t necessarily mean MLB.

It will definitely come into play.

Getting more smoke on Langford going 1 and Crews dropping to 3 with Skenes at 2…..Pirates think that they can get Langford for upwards of a mill less than Crews. It could be worth it.

The pirates have been floating out those smoke screens with both Langford and Clark

I mean if I’m a Pirates fan and I can take Langford and save some pool money to get a top line pitcher with their next pick….I’d be in.

Passing on a pitcher is never a "huge mistake".

So you are telling me that there are not elite defensive catchers in the MLB right now that can't hit worth a shite?
