They really needed Selvedge and the hope was landing one of the catchers. Couldn’t have asked for much better as far as returning players, unless something happens tomorrow.

If we lose anyone off the roster tomorrow, either in the draft or UDFA, it’s possible they were encouraged to go that direction.

We really wanted one of those catchers to slip to us. That didn't happen. Frankly the odds were weak for it. So it's a bad development but one we knew was likely.

We REALLY wanted Selvidge to slip to us. For a while that looked like it was possible. That's disappointing.

But we did manage to secure Lansville, which means we do have a weekend starter-quality signee slipping to us. That's a big win.

And if you're going to use the rule that anybody who isn't drafted until the 3rd day will stick around, your damage to the current roster from the draft is Hill and Marceaux and that's it. If it goes like that, you might have more production coming back from a team which managed to play in a super regional than anybody else in the SEC. So that's a win, especially if you put some stock into Johnson and his staff being able to develop some players.

Most of all, though, you haven't had any negative surprises. You didn't lose a Jack Merrifield or Jason Bollman or Josh Pearson or even Luke Leto. All the guys you did lose are people you figured you would.

So as of right now you're a couple transfer portal pitchers away from putting a solid staff together, and all you need is maybe one more option at catcher and you're pretty well loaded.

I can't give a whole lot of credit to Moscona's argument, frankly. You're right. Today's results were fine.

Moscona has had Kiley McDaniel on his show the last few weeks, has put it into his ear that LSU could potentially not lose any players in the draft class to the draft. At worst, it would be 1 or 2.

That was always unrealistic. But Matt has seemed to buy it.

Of course it is probably the same "scout" that told him Alex Milazzo was going to play in the major leagues.

Look at it from this perspective, we lost two players from last years team and one of them hardly played (Hill and Marceaux).

Now add, Berry, Merrifield, Simon, Pearson, McManus, Lansville, Taylor, Leto, etc... Not to mention we are not done with the portal.

We took a good team and added much much more than we took away. Book your hotels in Omaha now.
