Beryl Shipley is right up there on the Mount Rushmore of cheaters. He admitted to recruiting blacks to win basketball games and not to integrate the basketball.

The biggest critics of academic integration in Lafayette were the conservative business community. They switched when basketball started bringing in money to the community. And the business community provided cash another favors to the black players. Shipley knew or should have known this according to the President of USL, Dr. Authement.

Yes, there seems to be confusion. Either that or some people simply worry about stuff that shouldn't concern them. To each his own I suppose.
