I'm not saying you can't still be optimistic. It's still a "chance". But realistically, these types of things happen when you go down to the wire. Teams will sign all of their other players... some for less than slot; some for more. It doesn't really change much.
I think the biggest help is the Brewers themselves. They don't overpay and they aren't the most enjoyable franchise to play for. That being said, Brice isn't going to turn down 3.6-3.8 which is the number this will come down to.

This is all part of the negotiations. He's no more or less likely to come than last week. I'd still put it at 10%.

IT’S A DONE DEAL DAMNIT This means the absolute max they can offer right now is 3.6m. They’ve used 400k in overslot money to sign guys yesterday. Again, pretty telling
Don’t toy with me like this. Just let me expect him to be gone and pleasantly surprised if he would actually makes it here.

They can technically spend more than that. They'd just have to pay the tax.

Man I'm right there with you but dang 3.6 million is a lot of money to turn down. But if he is truly not happy and heck he might just want to go to college and experience that. One can keep wishing anyway

I think I read no team has went over that 5% mark since that rule was put in place.

It used to be that between 5 and 10% was just a heavier tax and you didn't lose a draft pick until you went over 10%. But now you lose a draft pick over 5%. Teams won't risk that.
The Brewers are going to sign whoever they can overslot to protect themselves if they can't get a deal with Turang done. (Protect themselves in the sense of not throwing away the whole draft for one player)
And then they're going to dare Turang to turn down $3MM+. It may be $3.5 or $3.25 or something, but they're going to make it a hard decision for him.
I wouldn't be surprised if they sign Cabell soon to an overslot deal.

I don't see the Brewers going over the 5% tax (3.6 right now) and losing a pick next year when they can assuredly secure two top 30 picks in 2019.

Too me them signing Cabell is probably going to cost them 500k. I think that would all but do it for Turang.
I think we can all agree that Turang’s number was 4-4.5 million on draft day, and it was assumed by me and most in this thread that he would probably sign for 3.5. I truly believe Turang will not sign for less than that. Brewers could hang themselves if they sign Cabell.

I think the Brewers tried to call Brice’s bluff and drafted him at 21 thinking he’ll cave for 3 to 3.2M.

The Brewers did a great job getting the 2-9 picks under slot I have to give it to them.

quote:Oh hell no they won't. I'm not saying they'll do that. Just pointing out that 3.6 isn't the true max.

They would have to sign Turang at slot to give Cabell that. If they don’t sign Turang the 5% overage is 5% of their top 10 rounds minus the 3M Turang slot is worth. They would have less than 300k to play with

So Cabell could wind up helping LSU out after all

Pretty much yes, would be a blessing in disguise

Which he will. I’m not sure why everyone is getting up in a tizzy about this.

He’s not signing for 3.2

Turang aside, we need Cabell to sign. Don't need him going to another sec school like ole Miss who lost their top guy to the Brewers

Cabell is either FSU/JUCO/Signing
Posted on 7/3/18 at 10:46 am to Adam4848
Manieri knew it all along after the draft. If he let Cabell go, he would be more inclined to sign with the Brewers than go to his second collegiate option while being one of the last to sign after working all this out and thus put the Brewers out of the running for Turang.
