Adam, will you give us a little blurb about the new bats and their effects on certain players who are known for a bit more power?

The bats are going to have the same effect on every player. What players in particular would you like me to discuss?

dozar didn't leave the team?
he's still on the roster, and they're usually really quick about updating that when something happens.

it was more of a "why didn't he?" question

he's the next Buzzy Haydel. Gotta have the program guys. Right now he's on pace to be the only senior here next year that has been here for 4 years (Didier would be a 4th year junior though). That's assuming Hanover, Mahtook, Nola and Ott go pro, which is pretty likely, IMO.

at what position??
Posted on 2/1/11 at 9:50 pm to Lester Earl
I think Dozar will have near 80 at bats by season's end.
He'll pitch hit practically every close game and sub in for players to give them rest...he'll get his at-bats.

why would he leave the team? He's pretty much the 1st guy off the bench, we aren't very deep.

Possibly, but not likely Catcher, more realistically, 1st Base, 3rd Base, DH, 2nd Base

I agree. If Dozar can hit, he'll get ABs. I know he's only hit around .270 his first 2 years, but I think he's gonna hit this year--of course this is coming from someone who thought Helenihi would hit! If we don't get good offensive production from 1B, 3B or RF, Dozar could get some PT there IF he can hit.

Cant wait for baseball season!

probably by default he'll have 80 ABs. I hope he makes the most of them. If he actually hits, he could find his way in the starting lineup somewhere.

If Edward or Jones struggles, I could see it

Alex Edward, the former Parkview Baptist standout will be replacing Blake Dean this upcoming spring. Second all time in hits and fourth in homeruns Dean’s offensive numbers may greatly shadow Alex’s offensive production early in his career, however don’t be fooled by such stats. Edward naturally tends to be a gap to gap hitter who focuses more on line drives and getting on base. After playing third base for a portion of last season Alex is back to his natural position of first base, the place he hopes to thrive in giving LSU a sure hand defensively. The one year letterman has made significant progress over the fall and has landed him the starting position heading into spring practice. Mainieri feels Edward can be that sparkplug he was late last season along with Mason Katz who got the tigers going offensively many innings. While Edwards doesn’t possess extraordinary homerun power or world class speed, for some reason I have a feeling he will lead LSU in doubles for the 2011 campaign given the fact he has enough at-bats. Grant Dozar a two year letterman will back up Edward at first base as well as many other positions. Jamie Bruno the Tulane transfer will sit out the 2011 season.

Is Hanover really going to go pro early?

1B could be wide open but we'll have someone who'll do the job!

I don't think Hanover or Ott will go pro after this year unless they put up incredible numbers.
