Yes but Kardell is not the backup at LG and Turner isn’t the backup C. We have what amounts to a 7 man rotation. 5 starters and 2 backups cover all 5 spots behind them. Cam Wire is the backup LT, RG and RT while Marlon Martinez is the backup LG and C.

It’s increasingly clear that quarantine affected the young OL the most. From what coaches have said, they are now in better shape & a full spring will do wonders for the whole group. Rational LSU fans are excited for this group in 2021!

No but I pay attention to what actually happens on the field bub. Everyone keeps shoving Kardell into the 2 deep but he’s doing good to be 3rd string right now that’s a fact. Maybe go rewatch the games and see who came in where when there was an injury or suspension before criticizing someone else. Yes it’s a new year but the same players are coming back so wouldn’t logic say to make the starting depth chart based on who played last year?

haha I was just showing how we are 3 deep at every position bub. I know Martinez got plenty of playing time. Also I knew this would spark up one of you rantards who's always shitting on Kardell Thomas. It's year 3 for him, I'm hoping for big improvements with a full year off his injury...but who ever said this was a starting depth chart?

Nobody is shitting on the kid just not blowing sunshine up his arse when it’s raining outside. It’s pretty clear he’s fallen out of favor with the staff wether because he was too busy trying to be woke and ran his mouth too much instead of keeping quiet and working hard or maybe it was because he didn’t take his rehab as seriously from his ankle injury which has set him back. There’s more talented guys in better physical shape on the roster right now so he’s got his work cut out for him. His buddy Bradford has the same issue but word is he’s starting to wake up and realize it’s slipping away because O said he’s down to 347 from 375.

Our OL and DTs had a lot of bad weight coming into 2020. I fully expect our trenches to be dramatically improved in 2021. Depth, talent and conditioning are all going to be gains from last season to this.

Something needs to light a fire under their butts. I lay it at the feet of the team’s leader. It is a failure of leadership.

As an ex offensive linemen specifically an offensive tackle, can LSU not recruit a replacement for Deculus? He is currently backed by 2 freshmen.

Hes big and strong but seems to lack strngh compared to size.
Hes the most senior lineman but lacks leadership and maturity.
He is RT instead of left to account for less effective pass blocking but his foot work is horrendous still.

On the bright side we have 3 capable experienced QBs.

Just going off memory I think Dec is supposed to be one of the stronger OL. My uneducated opinion though is he's playing beyond his ideal weight for his frame and that's made his footwork worse. Also, if he was a little lighter or had his weight distributed better he could get better knee bend, leverage and explosiveness.

Deculus started 13/15 games on a national Championship team. Did you?

No I did not. Deculus is a better lineman today than I ever was. Hes bigger and stronger.

And his foot work still sucks.

Thats the crazy part. In the weight room he supposedly is one if the strongest. It does not seem to translate to the field. He is often beaten by speed but also by a straight bull rush. His ability to get his man pushed back into the next level (3 yrds) on run plays appears to be completely dependent on weather it is a DT/DE or a lighter weaker LB walked up.

I like our offensive line "depth" but most don't have much SEC experience outside of the returning starters. Development will be key this year, which may be tough from a game standpoint if the starters stay healthy and maul people (like we hope they do). The hope is that talent, early workouts, and spring really get some guys to blossom and we can get a full schedule (and mop up duty) to put them on the field. We should have 2-3 more monsters coming to campus next year. The offensive line outlook could be really good or really bad if we don't develop.

I can't help but think this dude would be a BEAST at 330/335 and push to at least split time (RG maybe?) then take over by the end of the season.
I would hope for close to the same for Dumervil---capable of 50/50 snaps with Deculus and able to walk right in if the need arose.
What the hell! Martinez and Dellinger too!
Wire is already capable.
I luv me some Big Boys!
Auuuggghhh...these P & G glasses are burning my eyes!!!

You’re contradicting yourself. So he’s weak and has horrible footwork but was a 5* recruit at one time and has started for us for the past 3 years....yeah he’s pretty awful man

I am hoping we don’t stayed married to Shanahan or Hines as starters and let people compete.

They were not great. Even Deculus shouldn’t feel safe just because he came back

I hate screwing over a senior but I also want to win. Experience is great but if they play like last year we’re in trouble.
