What used to be a staple on an LSU team..even last year, has basically disappeared.

We are 117 in the country in Punt returns averaging 5 yards per return.

We are 111 in the country in KO returns averaging 17 yards per return.

They have been coached not to return. Some punts have had some space and they have fair caught.

Which is moronic if so because we have struggled to score points and we have the best kicker in America who just needs us to get to the opponent's 35 or so for a good shot at getting 3 points.

This is the area McMahon sucks

Don't forget the 3 onside kicks in 2019 that could've been extremely costly.

And then we get there and continually go for 4th and 3s

I have always wondered that if you’re not going to pressure the punter then why can’t you set up a return? You’ve got to be able to do one or the other. If not, find another job.

after the last couple years i say go out and find a jeff demps/trindon holliday, drop a bag, and get him to come here and return kicks and punts for 3-4 years

we need that spark. it's important.

CEO is a typical conservative defensive coach. He'd rather take the middle ground than to push for a boom/bust.

Never understood this. You have a free opportunity to have a big play, yet you REFUSE!!! When the opportunity is there of course!!!

They always want to put the 10.5 100m guy back there for punt returns, when there is so much more to it as you and several others mention. Give me the guy who can break one every now and then, but will secure the ball first every time, make good decisions with regards to what to catch, let go, fair catch, and when he DOES catch it, average 8-10 yards a return. It is all about maintaining possession and giving your team the best field position possible and an occassional home run.

I was annoyed as hell when we didn't try to return some kickoffs when our offense was sputtering. Punts scare me and I just hope they are caught without a fumble

I am totally fine with just being able to smartly field punts and gain only 5 yards.

As long as we avoid disastrous muffs and fielding inside the 12 yard line, I’m goooood.

It really shows up when you don't have a great offense. With someone like Burrow, all you want your returners to do is not fumble. With a unit like this ... Some electricity would help.

The NCAA and pro football have all but eliminated the kickoff return from the game
I don't even know why they do it anymore
Just start play at the 25

Punt returns could be improved but opposing teams do a lot to affect that as well with directional and purposely kicking away to prevent returns

There is nothing special about Palmer. He may have been Reggie Bush in high school but it hasn't translated to Saturdays.

When I saw Williams back to receive kicks, I knew we were just surrendering returns. Trey Palmer may not have lived up to the hype as a pass catcher and route runner, but you can't teach speed and athleticism.

Devin Hester wasn't great on offense but he could get you six at any moment on a return. We have too much speed on this team to surrender every kickoff.

Pretty much if the opponent is past their own 30 and has less than 15 yards on 4th, we go into safe mode and leave the starting defense out there with palmer back to fair catch. Vintage coach O.

The guy we need is Palmer but on kickoff they have Josh Williams just fair catching every damn thing and on Punt return they play safe and don’t even set up a return to let Palmer make a play.

He’s had 14 KO in his Career with 1TD
He’s had 13 PR in his career with 1 TD

For comparison Fournette returned 24 KO his Freshman year with 1 TD

Odell returned 42 KO never had a TD & and had 62 PR with 2 TDs

Give Palmer a damn chance.

Agreed great at IDing specialists terrible
In the return game.

I get We don’t really try in KOs. But PR has been mediocre to outright bad l outside 1-2 returns.
