Are you implying that even though we have no experience behind Nussmeier and no competition, we shouldn’t go after another QB in the portal because Nussmeier is on someone’s Heisman watchlist?

Probably should just do what teams did before and recruit good players to be backups and next in lines

We did and he left for the portal. This is the new reality. The old way is dead, kids aren’t going to sit like they use too.

There are many handing off the starting position in the portal and hiding behind the fake curtain calling it “competition”

We did that with Collins, I thought, but that's one of those consequences of having a historically bad defense. We needed JD to keep playing, so Nuss barely got any snaps and Collins did little more than hand off in a couple of games.

Kelly needs to weigh short term security over long term stability. Hopefully Collins gets a lot of reps in the spring, and we'll get a good look at what he brings to the table.

You mean if someone takes Nuss’s place? I mean, to me, that just means he wasn’t good enough. Would be nice to not go 5-7 which we could’ve easily done had our QB not been a freakish cyborg this year.

No, but some of you need to temper your expectations over the level of QB the staff is going to pursue. They are not going to even bother with anyone looking for a guaranteed starting position, and that’s what most established QBs who enter the portal are looking for.

Yea that method doesn’t work anymore big dog. I wished it did but those elite recruits have no patience anymore and will hit the portal the minute they figure out they won’t play within a year.

To be fair, Brennan was on these lists ahead of 2020.

Having a QB pushing Nuss or any QB is good for the program. Also we are a couple snaps away from playing a 17 year old Collin Hurley in a game next year.

I hope he pans out, I really do. At this point though I'm getting some Miles Brennan flashbacks. I hope they get some competition to make him better.

Came in the thread to post the same thing. I have some faith in Nuss but these early lists are widespread nets.

Exactly. He hasn’t even been named the starter yet. Our fans need to slow our Heisman roll

He did complete 60% of his passes for over 1100 yards with 11 TDs and 3 picks. Maybe not Heisman worthy but pretty good. I’d take that from Nuss in his first three starts.

This will have to be a totally different offensive philosophy w/o a QB with escape/running abilities.
