Teams are loading up with linebackers at defensive end, safeties playing linebacker, and cornerbacks playing safety.

Things are cyclical in nature, these light in the arse defenses are practically begging for people to run at them out of power sets.

He does.

He also needs to run and slide for 4-5 yard gains when the defense gives it to him. It will keep the linebackers from floating back into passing lanes immediately after every snap and slow the pass rushers down.

Tell me why it is 3rd and goal at the 1 yard line and the QB lines up 5 yards behind the center? Makes no sense. He has two opportunities to sneak it in

Well, LSU did that on many 3rd and Goal. Not every time, but did it plenty and did it 3rd & 1 at the 40yd line. But you’re fixated on the times they didn’t.

So your whole argument to be more under center is just for that 3rd and 1? lol

I totally agree with that concept. However, it would have been more effective this year.

Nuss under center and Perk as the fullback. I think I just cracked the code. Run from the Power I on first and second down. Hire Miles as an analyst to institute this fresh idea

Allows RB to build a head of steam before taking the ball and running. Also allows for play action game which would complement Nuss’ skills well

The biggest waste is for LSU's plays to develop as slow as they do on read option type plays. Everyone knows that Nussmeier never keeps the ball so just go with straight handoffs or the old pitch back to the RB. With the LSU OL having trouble opening/keeping holes open, the quicker the play develops the better. I have no problem with almost no called running plays for Nussmeier. But the defense is smart enough to know he is hardly a dual threat QB.

I like how you think we can just incorporate an entirely different offensive philosophy for a specific situation without completely telegraphing what play we’re trying to run.

Overstated. Either way the RB has to run from a dead stop (if not in motion). Only real difference is that he doesn’t have to wait for the snap to get to the QB if the QB is under center, but that can be mitigated using pistol.

You’re gaining marginally better PA fakes at the expense of:
- Putting your QB closer to the pass rushers.
- Limiting your QB’s pre-snap vision of the field.
- Making your QB take his eyes off the field while he drops back/fakes.
- Neutering your RPO game because of the above.

I don’t think it particularly complements Nussmeier’s game at all.

Interesting read. Article from Sept. 2024.
Shotgun or Under Center? College Football's Great Short Yardage Debate

Under Center vs Shotgun

quote:

In today’s NFL, over 83 percent of all offensive snaps come with the quarterback in some form of shotgun formation. Some quarterbacks, notably Jalen Hurts and Joe Burrow, take over 95 percent of their snaps in the shotgun.

I also get frustrated when they line up in shotgun in short yardage.

However, don't call Under Center an NFL Offense, since most of the NFL is in Shotgun the majority of the time.

Every offense should have a package under center. It allows guys to get downhill, would’ve really helped Williams and Jackson because they are downhill runners. Durham is the only RB we had that could be effective running out of the gun. It also keeps the defense guessing. Since we didn’t run very many counters, a HB lining up to the right of the QB 95% of the time will be running to a gap on the left side.

This tells me you have Zero understanding of football and zero understanding of running the ball.

This is the most overused ridiculous statement on here. You don’t have to be under center or in I-form to get down hill.

It's not overused, it's simple logic. If you start in the gun next to the QB and get the ball, you have to have burst while having the football...if your under center, you get a head start before you get the football.

You could also run of of the pistol, which would be my preference, but I still think everyone should run a few packages under center. I guess our redzone woes didn't attribute to only running out of the gun.
