re: Nuss is the best college QB in America next year but the defense is what matters.

Great point. Need experienced guys too. Every year we lose 5-10 defensive back ups who would be seeing playing time in their 3rd or 4th years that we just can’t keep around for whatever reason. It’s a killer. If you look at these playoff teams, they have a ton of experience, and we can’t keep more than a handful of starters for 4 years. Needs to change.

Agreed, we did improve significantly last year from 2023 defensively but the cold, hard truth was the talent on defense both in 2023 and 2024 was below the standard of what is should be here. I think outside of safety to this point, we've taken steps in recruiting and transfer portal to get back much closer to that standard on defense in the upcoming year.
If fact I think if we add a quality safety before it's done, we'll have the talent to be a top-40 or better defense, and if Nuss takes the step we hope he will that could make for a pretty good year next year.

In fairness this years defense lost their best DL to start the season, later lost Perkins for the season, and best db Alexander was injured for some of the season. All while Baker was changing the culture and playing with limited roster. I expect a huge jump for the defense in 2025.

They all have solid running games as well. Can't constantly lean on the pass in short yardage and the red zone.

LSU could not run the ball or play defense this year. It’s like I was looking at a big 12 team

Needs to continue improving his decision making. Sometimes he attempts risky or unwarranted throws that would be better running it or throwing it away. If he improves his metal decisions, he will have a great season (better than this one).

This was what I saw too - watching the semifinals you saw offensive linemen that could actually block in the run game. I think the D will keep improving.
Yes, Nuss has a better arm than these other 4 QBs. Our skill position guys are a level above Penn State and ND. Get an O-line that can move the LOS and create room in the run game and we take a major step forward.

Manning will likely lead the pack of QB’s. Nuss in top ten.

Nuss needs to learn and be willing to run the ball when those opportunities are there for him to do so. That will open up the offense if defenses have to start accounting for him scrambling out of the pocket or keying him on read options.

We don't have a running game bc the numbers don't add up. If Nuss is no threat to run, which he is now then you no chance to be successful running. It is 11 defenders vs 10 offensive players.

I think nuss is still the least of the problems with LSU. Most likely, he's one of the best 5 qb's in the country next year and our ability to play defense, specifically on the back end will determine how far we go. Yea, we need to run the ball better, but i bet Nuss works that in a bit next season, and hopefully we get some push from the oline.

That remains to be seen. If they continue to call a zone read then Nuss has to show a higher IQ and feel for when to tuck it, hit the edge then slide for the 1st. Downvote me all you want, but any poster that truly knows the game could see he has low QB awareness on riding the mesh point and constantly giving up with a zone dive that gets blown the F up. These are drive killers and in the USC 1st game of the year, it was a game killer.

Did you watch the games at all?
It's like you're trying to argue a point instead of what actually happened.
Nuss is literally breaking record with one of the worst rushing offenses LSU has had in decades and your response is - he needs to run more?
If you're dumb enough to think Nuss not running is why we're not in the playoffs then you're too dumb to argue with:
vs USC we gave up 378 yards to Miller Moss. Nuss played very good in this game.
vs A&M we gave up 31 point in one half to a true freshman QB who had 2 pass attempts. By the way- Tommy Moffit showed up in this game, which is why we got bullied in the trenches.
Their running game - 43 Carries 256 yards
Our running game - 19 Carries 27 yards
That's insane
Vs Bama he did play like shite but 2019 Joe Burrow on LSUs team that day and we still lose with giving up 48 Carrie's for 311 yard and 6 TDs. Again, Nuss played like shite in this game but you cannot be that dominated on the ground and then be mad about the QB not running
Then look at Florida- Lagway was playing on one leg and was zero threat to run and lit us up. Nuss also didn't play well in this game. You could blame this loss on Nuss but your logic of the QB run falls apart because Lagway was absolutely no threat at all to run.

USC
A&M
Bama
Florida
He had multiple interceptions only vs Bama and A&M- please tell me that you blame those loses on him?
Hey how'd Cade Klubnik play against UGA and South Carolina? Surely he didn't actually lose his team multiple games huh?
fricking fair weather fans see Cade light up SMU and think he's a stud now.

Defense cannot stop the run or the pass. Offense cannot run the ball (JD covered up a lot). STs still suck. Multi-year problems for $100 million.
