BK couldn’t even keep a straight face when he said that…they gave Nuss a 15 yard head start going downhill??

Absolutely, it's been his choice. Go back and watch some of his tape from 2022. He is no statue.

Why do coaches do this? That’s Jayden Daniel’s speed

Yeah I was coming to post something.

High 4.5s in the 40? Sure

Running as fast as the range of JD/BTJ?

I never once believed Nuss was slow... I just htink he has an extreme amount of confidence in his arm and is overly cautious to not get hurt.

This isn't a bad thing... He just needs to be coached up to be able to run when the defense gives it to him, duck out of bounds or slide down.

I wonder how much of this comes from being off-field coached by his dad.

I believe it. He looks fast the few times he runs.

I posted this last season and I believe his old man was definitely in his ear about that

I get what he’s saying - but top speed doesn’t equal a fast 40

Just to reiterate - I’d bet Jelani Watkins is the fastest guy on the team, but probably doesn’t have the fastest 40

Probably not much… you think his dad was telling Jalen Hurts to not run the ball for Philadelphia last year?

my limited exposure noticed the opposite - he seem clumsy to me.

Agree. He's awkward moving around. Imo it's his instincts reacting faster than his brain. He panics. Jarrett Lee like.

Never thought he was slow, he just doesn't think to run when he should. There were dozens of times last year where he couldn't gotten 5-7 yards and slide and keep the ball/chains moving, but forced a throw into coverage.

He needs to watch prime Aaron Rodgers highlights. He's not quite that athletic, but Rodgers demoralized defenses with those quick easy gains, often on 1st down. Makes the linebackers and safeties play up too and opens up things downfield.

Music to my ears that CBK wants him to run more. We lost one game for sure and maybe one more because Nuss missed open running lanes to get 1st downs and keep drives going.

I bet he does

Dude is trained to get off the blocks/line fast and is lightning in the 60m.

quote:

Freshman Jelani Watkins has continued to show promise from the start, clocking a PR and tying the No. 7 time in LSU performance-list history of 6.63 seconds (adjusted from 6.61 for altitude). His new PR ties another former LSU-football player in Donte Jackson, and comes a day after clocking a blazing time of 20.85a in the 200 meter.

ETA:

Donte ran a 4.32 combine/4.31 pro day and I think Jelani might be faster, he's just a freshman.

I do believe he was advising his kid to "protect his future" last year, you think Hurts would have listened to him if Nuss would have said that?

I think Nuss is definitely more mobile than people think, but he definitely doesn't run a 4.5. that is not possible

I remember in the FL game last year on 3rd and 13 he got 14 yds running the ball and looked pretty good doing it.Much like Burrow. I think he was less likely to run it last year due to inexperience at backup. This year we have an experienced backup that has proven he can play in the SEC. I think that makes Nuss and the coaches more willing to take the risk. He just needs to know how to slide when needed unlike JD.LOL..

He's fast but to me he doesn't exhude toughness, like Baker Mayfield toughness. Hell, I never questioned JB's toughness, I knew he was gonna get it done.
