The Advocate reported that Max Johnson has completed 58% of his passes for 252 yards and two touchdowns in two scrimmages. The report noted coaches confidence has grown in freshman Garrett Nussmeier, who has gone 29 of 49, six touchdowns and one interception in two scrimmages.

On the receiving end, sophomore Kayshon Boutte is their no1 option. Though no one besides Boutte has solidified themselves as a starter, LSU is so loaded and talented at this position that nine receivers have a legitimate shot at starting.

Myles had better stats than Joe in the scrimmages in 2019. Don’t put a ton of weight into those numbers.

You are correct, but! Myles didn’t have anything close Nuss’s numbers.

Then Max came in and one 100% of his starts at the end of the season.

This one really means nothing not knowing the context of the passing but 58% was where he was last year and around 56% in his 2 starts. Hopefully he can bump it up over 60.

Or maybe this is a sign our defense is still struggling.

So it’s struggling against Garrett, but not against Max?

Max completing 58% against the ones in a secondary that maybe be the best ever at a school named DBU. I’m tingling.

Ya, he totally won that florida game with an awesome drive at the end.

Max Johnson is a beast, but yall really need to chill with the whole "HE WON HIS STARTS" bs.

I'm not worried about Max getting it done. He's gonna be shaky for the first couple of games at most but then he'll come on strong for the rest of the season. I see this team hitting 10 wins. 9 wins minimum but I think we surprise some people this year.

If Max is struggling to keep up scoring TD’s vs an opponent, I can envision Coach O giving Nuss a shot.

Those aren't solid numbers. Jake on OTB said that if a WR drops a TD pass, they count it as a TD.

Also, if a QB gets touched, he's down in a scrimmage. They won't allow him to run and make a play.

They don't mean anything.

It's conversion of third downs, and converting those into TD's and not turning the ball over that counts.

People don't think about this stat when they try to defend the offensive line play.

If that’s true, Max’s completion % is actually worse. I get it, Max isn’t allowed to display his escapability. But you can’t have it both ways in explaining the numbers of both QB’s. Burrow gained a first down

Also, if a QB gets touched, he's down in a scrimmage. They won't allow him to run and make a play. Max may not have a high completion % but can he be like Joe Burrow in one regard. Joe gained a first down on a majority of his runs, can Max do that?

I’m sorry but I don’t take stats in a scrimmage too seriously. At this point I’m just ready to see us play. I trust the coaches. I trust the players. They just have to go out there and play.
