There is zero reason to keep Gibbs, Cain, Ochinko on staff. Paul should have damn near a blank check to go about getting the absolute best position coaches, especially those with experience.

Gibbs and Ochinko no doubt. Cain should be moved back into the "volunteer" role if he's only going to recruit and hire a full time hitting coach that can also recruit.

If we miss Omaha again, I hope Woodward does what's right and move forward with a splash hire.

Putting aside one's confidence or lack thereof in the program in Mainieri's hands moving forward, his contract is a big road block. Woodward would have to decide whether it would make sense to eat $4million+ just to get rid of a coach for a sport that barely turns a profit. That's not even accounting for the presumably huge contract we'd have to dole out to make a splash hire.

Interesting about Willis. Sounds like he isn’t working very hard.

That really sucks, he’s one of my favorite players even though we didn’t see a lot from him
The potential is there

Maybe "barely turns a profit" is a bit hyperbolic. But, in 2018 the baseball program had a net profit of $345,536. In the grand scheme of an athletic department like LSU that's not all that significant.

Volunteers cannot recruit off campus

You right, forgot about that. Well not sure what to do with Cain then. I mean what other skills is he bringing to the table since PM doesn't really specialize in anything either

Mainieri: CJ Willis will be a first baseball, left fielder or DH. Mainieri says the biggest thing for him is to “kick it into another gear” in terms of energy and love for the game. “He needs to be passionate and obsessed with the game and see that potential come to fruition.”

To me, this is the most newsworthy item listed. That's a pretty telling comment. He's basically saying Willis is talented enough to start/be great, he just has to try harder/care more.

I mean, it's not really surprising. That's kinda what you would expect about any high level recruit who doesn't play. It's just interested for him to say it. It reads very ultimatum-like. Like, decide if you want to play here or bye.

This is why the 3rd paid assistant vote was so important

It’s almost a no win situation

My thoughts are if he can't coach a position group, we need to find someone who can do both. I have plenty of confidence that Cain is not the only coach out there that can recruit players to play here. I think that's becoming a pretty lame excuse not to hire a paid assistant that can also coach. However, Cain is PM's "boy" so I don't see him ever being let go or reassigned.

Bingo, it would make no sense. And lets face it, the results are not what we would all like...but they are not as bad as the Rant makes out. Next year will be a easy year to see if the program is in good hands or not.

My takeaways from the comments are:

Do not take a chance on any more hurt arms coming in to LSU

Dunn has gotten heat from somewhere and Paul has decided to protect him.

I am alarmed that Paul is saying that he and Cain are 'scouring' the country to find infielders to replace those that we lost. If that is the case, we are about 18 months too late IMO.

Put another way, a new coach would have to be here 10 years before we got our return on CPMs buyout.

I'm with you on that. Milazzo was mentioned by name, from what I can tell he was the only recruit mentioned by name. That may not mean anything in relation to Torres, but that combined with Torres dropping off the Gaitherburg roster is adding at least a small amount of smoke.
