In the end, all that matters is getting a top 8 seed, but it's kind of strange when we're #1 in all the polls and D1 baseball and talking heads have us at the #7 seed matched up with Arkansas. If we're playing in Hoover on Sunday I think we end up with the 4 seed.

It really is quite ridiculous. Hard for the fans to get too excited for Purdue-Fort Wayne and Omaha University.

PFW was a last minute replacement I think. I really wonder who we were supposed to play.

Yeah, and losing to Omaha and so forth doesn’t help.

Don't flip me off. I'm not in charge of scheduling.

the funniest part is that D1 baseball has LSU ranked number one, and they’re projecting them as a seven national seed. So they’re basically saying that their own poll is crap.

Theres a difference between ranking the "best" team in the country and ranking post season play for "most deserving".

I get that, but a seven spot difference seems a little extreme though.

We finished 4th in the SEC and a 5th overall in 2023. We had a 43-15 overall record. Just be a top 8 seed and get to Omaha.

I really do not get why people think the SEC tourney matters for seeding as much as they do

If history is any indicator the tourney will have a minimal impact on seeding

Not really. They are saying this is who we think the best teams are, but it’s different from what we think the committee will do. They are really saying that the committee focuses too much on things like RPI. It’s unfortunate that there are so many people on this board that can’t understand the difference between rankings and projections.

The most important thing to understand about why we were ranked #1 with a flailing SOS is that it’s all about pitching.

Those that have it have much better winning predictability than those that don’t. How our pitching handled Arkansas the previous weekend can’t be overstated as a reason for our ranking.

Auburn played 2 RPI Top 100 weekend games. Georgia played 5 games against the Top 100 on the weekend, but none in the Top 70. It’s not like either team played some gauntlet that impacted their W/L record that should give them preference over LSU in seeding. A lot of the problem for LSU is midweek opponents dragging them down, which again should have little to no bearing on seeding. I just don’t see things playing out that way, but if it does, it’s on the committee for not looking at the resumes at the appropriate level of detail.

It’s only been said 1000 times on this board that Jay, at the last minute, had to replace two much better teams that decided at the last minute to unschedule us.
