Not in the situation with Clemson because Clemson has a team that's together and has been together for awhile. They rarely heavy dip into the portal. Whatever BK does it doesn't work for early part of the season. To his credit he makes noticeable adjustments when it's not working but he needs to do better getting his teams prepared for game 1.

A team who heavily relies on the portal is at a disadvantage in a game like this because even if you're pulling in top portal talent that talents takes awhile to mesh. Clemson has a huge advantage on LSU right now. They SHOULD on paper be less sloppier and they're at home.

A loss to Clemson on the road is not the end of the season....a loss to Florida could be. I don't think we'll lose any SEC games at home. That leaves Ole Myth, Bama and Okie on road. Win 2 outta 3 and you're good. We ain't losin' to Vandy.

But there is an Alabama and a Florida on the schedule.

Alabama is almost as talented as Georgia. Granted Texas and Florida are in different levels right now.

But... but... Lane Kiffin! He's a Miracle Worker who can transform a pet rock into a top-shelf SEC QB.

QB is the single most important position in all of team sports. LSU doesn't just have a "returning QB". They have a QB with the most passing yards and 2nd most TD passes last season of all returning QBs. Almost all of LSU's championship caliber teams have had one common trait...experience at QB. Mauk, Flynn, Burrow. The best offenses all shared that same trait. Davy (2001), Mettenberger (2013), Daniels (2023)

Will we be a good tackling team this year? Will we limit the big plays that plagued us the past couple of years?

Obviously that is an unknown. But IMO, the biggest reason for the long plays was horrible safety play. Those guys turned what should have been 8-12 yard gains into 30-40 yard gains. Burns, who was constantly out of position and overly aggressive is gone. So is Ryan, who never saw a collision he didn't want to avoid. If this safety play is even just moderately better this season then LSU should have a decent defense.
______

You can't justify 10-2 because we have a returning QB. Yes, QB play is critical. I expect good things from Nuss, but we need quite a few other things to go our way for 10-2.

Agree that safety play was poor, but our D problems were broader than safety. Gap assignments were poor in multiple games and not limited to the safeties. Tackling in general was not as good as the years where we put a dominant D on the field.

If you read too much about any top 15 team out there, people will make you believe they are all super talented and improved from last year and will be NC contenders.

We will find out within a few weeks how much of that is bullshite hype.

I feel like LSU has a good of a chance as anyone to be a surprise NC contender.

This is not your dad's Vandy team. They proved last year with Diego Pavia they could hang with Alabama, Texas and the SEC Elite Fleet.

He is a warrior but I think their win against Bama last year is going to prevent teams from looking past them this year.

Games at Vandy are basically a mini home game for the opposing school, so we should be ready to go and get out of there with a W.

This may be a year where the vast majority of the rant agrees that there are no excuses this year

You don’t even want to play SECCG and risk an additional loss and bounced from 12 team playoff. Finish 3rd and let first and second fight it out.
