We executed at the free throw line and that was the difference in the game. But that’s two games in a row to start where we can’t defend a hot shooter.
Well, some of that is on Wade then. He should have called timeout and made an adjustment to have someone at the top the the key denying the guy the ball or in his face when he caught it.

Exactly and switching on screen when Galloway was setting it

Yeah Wade needed to adjust. That guy had hit 13 career three pointers before tonight. Think Wade just thought it was a hot streak and eventually he would start to miss but damn....move him off the spot at least.
That being said even with below par perimeter defense to shoot the way they did was absurd. Their two big men hit more threes tonight than they had in their entire career, and both are upperclass men I believe.

Almost all of his shots were contested

I couldn’t agree more. Disappointed he didn’t seem to put an emphasis on that guy at all, like eventually he would start missing.
I get that Alonso was the guy they tried to focus on but after Galloway’s 4th 3-pointer from the same spot you have to honor his ability to continue to hit it. The play near the end when he was trailing really pissed me off because he had already hit like 6 of them and they just left him out there.

So...is it that we need better personnel or scheme?

I would say about half were contested and that is being generous all of the pick and pop 3's from the top of the key or drive and kick 3's to the the top were mostly wide open.
I would say for how impressive Reid and Williams were as freshman, they needed this on defense. To show at the college level guys that are not as athletic as them you have to respect as being skilled.

Came to a point were every time i looked up from my phone they had stroked another 3, nice to watch when we can beat a team that shot so well.

That was young post players just not coming out quick enough.
That said we controlled the game throughout.
This team will just continue to improve. Wade will run there arse off after film study.
Again, UNCG will win a lot of games this year and make the tourney.
On to Memphis.

Let's just be thankful we can out-athlete teams early in the season. The defense will improve with time.

yep. the perimeter d isn't nearly as bad as their percentage tonight suggests
It was absolutely that bad. I was at the game. They kept taking their eyes off of hot shooters and looking into the paint.

They had too many uncontested shots. Something they'll need to work on

You guys saying Wade didn't adjust weren't at the game obviously. He was livid after the 3rd 3 pointer Galloway knocked down. He was well aware. The execution by the players wasn't there. Period.

We play no D.

It was a good quality win where Coach W can look at the film and show the boys where they need to improve on defense

And Naz will be hitting shots from mid-court consistently?
Posted on 11/10/18 at 10:05 am to ellessuuuu
yep, too many clean looks. Mostly from what I saw guys getting whipped on initial dribble penetration too often necessitating help rotation that left guys open all night for dunks and threes.
I though Smart in particular was victimized this way.
I expect that to get better as the season goes. But for now not acceptable. Too many clean looks for a good team and UNCG is a good team.

He hit one from far away, wouldnt say he was “consistently hitting them”
Also the only problem on defense was guarding an extremely hot 3 point shooter. Everyone else was guarded well from 3 except Galloway because he’s a long, experienced 6’8 stretch 5, it isn’t easy to guard people like that on high pick n rolls
Also, just about every 2 they made was an insanely good shot guarded perfectly, our perimeter guards were very active getting steals and tips, and we rebounded very well
Defense was no where near as bad as yall are saying
Eta: Galloway had 13 total threes made the past 2 years and was a 28% 3 point shooter, not sure they were ready for him to shoot like he did

quote:Agree that some were left open but at least half of their threes were with someone in their face. Alonzo had the fastest release on a three I have ever seen. The guy in the second half was 6'8" and shooting from way out. Yes, we need to get better but damn those guys were good.
You keep leaving guys open and they will.
