I find this very concerning for year two. Have you ever heard of an SEC program not having a spring game? Heck, we had one last year.

From Dandy Don:

quote:

Spring Game? You might have noticed LSU has not officially published anything about specific details regarding this year’s spring game. As we go further into the spring, we believe this is by design. Yesterday we reported that Miles Frazier missed the workout, which left the Tigers with only six available scholarship offensive linemen for the day. That could make it rather difficult to hold a traditional spring game. And Brian Kelly has pretty much hinted at this from the first time he met with the media this spring. Asked about the nature of the spring game and what it’s like to juggle keeping things vanilla but also creating a television-friendly event, he said, “If you can play the game… You could have a short spring game, but you could have some 7-on-7 or individual drills. You could have some things where fans are still involved in it, but we’ll have to see how that goes.” This is a storyline more for the fans, but in reality, I’m not sure a spring game is as important this year as it was a season ago. Kelly wanted to mimic an actual game, from the pregame rituals to the battle between the lines during his first year. With his team much further along this go-around and injuries and other things preventing certain players from participating, we wouldn’t be shocked to see something very different this year.

Let’s be real - Spring games are about as useless as a 6-6 bowl game.

Doesn’t hurt my feelings.

Still fun to watch and attend. Extra reps never hurt either

Spring game is a glorified practice. If they don’t have a true spring game they will still have a practice. The article seems like there will be some sort of practice for fans/tv just not a true split squad spring game. Which I am fine with.

Why does this concern you? The only thing that concerns me is building a healthy championship caliber team for Football season. The Spring game is not essential in any way. I’d say it adds nothing to a team’s overall performance in the Fall. It’s mainly for the fans and media to have something to talk about.

Spring practices are crucial, but a Spring game is not.

True. The only real benefit is playing in front of fans. Anything they do in a spring game they can do in practice as well.

I guess that we don’t have the players for a game in year two.

They are still going to do something. The spring game counts towards your 15 on field practice days so they will still use all 15 of those days.

It seems like Brian Kelly is perfectly fine letting veterans with any kind of lingering injuries from the previous season to just sit out spring practice. That’s why the number are a little low.

We actually have a ton of depth, but we have a lot of players who are recovering from injuries who aren’t available this Spring. Kelly talked about this in his press conference this week. We are bigger, stronger, and faster than we’ve been in several seasons, and we have more depth, but that depth won’t fully be available until the Fall.

Spring games are important to recruiting and the fanbase, and it’s a chance for incoming players to play in front of a crowd in tiger stadium before getting thrust out there Week 1.

Any extra time the team can get in a “game” scenario to work out the kinks with play calling, signaling, etc. is a good thing. I would say moreso this year with a new special teams coordinator and the scattered approach.

Let Kelly do it the way he wants. Practices are limited do whatever helps us most.

"But Alabama had 400,000 at their Spring Game"

Spring games crowds at LSU fill up a fraction of the stadium. I don’t think it’s a real true representation of Saturday night’s in the Fall.

Somebody should tell the recruits and the fanbase this.
