Multiple sources with knowledge of the situation told The Times-Picayune that Jones will be fired after the upcoming SEC Tournament. The Tigers play Mississippi State on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the opening game of the tournament.

Jones has been on the hot seat since the end of last season but LSU's performance this year hasn't done anything to help. LSU is 10-20 this season with a 2-16 record in conference play.

In October 2014, Jones signed an extension with LSU that stretched his contract through July 2019 paying him $1.5 million per season.

Jones felt the heat following last season as well after his team failed to live up to expectations surrounding them with eventual No. 1 pick Ben Simmons on the roster.

LSU finished tied for third in the SEC but a 19-14 overall record was not what many expected with Simmons on the roster. LSU was not selected for the NCAA Tournament and declined an invitation to the NIT.

This year's Tigers set a new program record with 15 consecutive losses. The team dismissed forward Craig Victor during the season and never got the production it needed out of guard Branden Jenkins, who dealt with the lingering effects of a knee injury throughout the time he joined the team in late December.

Jones is 90-71 in his coaching career. His 90 victories are the fourth-most all-time by an LSU coach and the most by any coach in his first five years.

Why does this news not excite me?
Does anyone on this board have any confidence Alleva can do any better than his last two hires?

I cheered for the guy and defended him for a good while, but last season is easily one of the top 3 most disappointing seasons as an LSU fan that I've experienced. I felt like all those years of enduring mediocrity had paid off, but nah.

Never like an LSU guy to lose his job, but it's time

I like how the article blames Branden Jenkins. He was supposed to play defense for the rest of the team!

I actually do have more faith this time around.

Ok, Alleva whiffed on Trent Johnson. That's on him.

He was strong armed into hiring Jones. This one is not on him. He did not make the Jones hire and had ZERO say in the hire.

Because Jones was such a failure, the old guard (Brown and Temple), will not even get a phone call asking who they would want to get this job this time around.

So, I think Jones failure is actually a good thing for LSU Bball and Allevas future, and Alleva will get an open checkbook here to make a hire.

Another failed hire, and LSU bball may never recover.

Thoughts?

I don't understand what leverage Brown and Temple supposedly had to force poor Joe into such a terrible hire.

Some of us had some worry it wouldn't happen.
