The Advocate's staff writer Reed Darcy has an article in The Advocate saying, "Iowa guard Caitlin Clark on pace to break Pete Maravich's hallowed scoring record". That's more Advocate gibberish and is only in the writer's head. (no, I'm not giving a link to give the Advocate clicks). Maravich and Clark didn't play the same sport and the two sports have different record books. Similarly, there is a separate record book for NCAA men's track records and NCAA women's track records.

This is such crap. Not even worth the paper written upon. Total absence of equivalency. She can't sustain the rigor against men and who knows what Pistol would have hung playing women.

Folks need to stay in their lane and cease all of this stupidity

It’s a completely different sport to all you male feminists. The record is safe.

Advocate meant to say Catlin breaking women's record...

In comparison...Pete played 3 years averaged 44 per game without 3pts line...against men

What is far more important than the absence of a 3-point line was the absence of a shot clock. What would Pete have done with an extra 10 or 15 possessions every game?

To be fair, Maravich put up those numbers against only white competition in college

They are inferior

To be fair, this is a bullsh*t remark.
And not entirely true. LSU played against black players during Maravich's time. In his senior year, he played against Southern Cal, Oregon State, UCLA and Marquette.
In fact, the great John Wooden praised Pete after UCLA played against him, saying he was like "a white Globetrotter."

As for the record, it's impossible to estimate how many points Pete would have scored had there been a 3-point line and a shot clock in those days. Dale Brown once claimed to have looked at old game films (I don't believe him, but anyway) and said Maravich would have averaged another 5 or 6 points per game.
I don't think that's accurate, though. Anyone who watched Pete in person in those days knows what kind of player he was, and after all his dad was the coach. To try to chart how many of his shots were behind the eventual 3-point arc ignores Pete's flair and showmanship.
Let me suggest that had there been a 3-point shot in those days, Pete Maravich would have taken NEARLY ALL of his shots behind the arc. That's what kind of player he was.

Caitlin Clark is a great women's college player. Let's leave it at that.

Am I missing something? lol
“Pete Maravich of Louisiana State moves in for a basket against Tulane's Harold Sylvester in New Orleans, Feb. 10, 1969.”

This is stupid. The Women’s Basketball is smaller, plus they have a 3 point line. Pistol would have averaged 57 ppg with the 3 point line.

When she scores 60 points per game that would be equivalent to Pete’s 44. Plenty of Pete’s shots would have been 3 pointers and you had no shot clock back then.

According to LSU's archives, Pete scored 66 against Tulane (and Harold Sylvester) that night.

If another 100lb student runs in front her again, she could be out for the season.
