That's why sports is so popular - we have an emotional attachment to our teams. Whether it's because we went to a school, live in the town, or just like the team for whatever reason - it's OUR team. Not just some random group of players we watch - we feel an emotional connection.
You don't have to be a player, coach, or owner of a team to call it "yours."
I grew up in BR and graduated from LSU. Didn't play, but yes, LSU is MY team.
And note that I hate the NBA, so I'm not claiming any love for the Hornets/Pelicans.
