But you can't deny that some people try to give him all of the credit.

Emmeret had ALOT to do with it, BUT as far as getting players and WINNING!!! Saban brought LSU where its NEVER been before and I am tired of these little punks who don't understand football bitching about him!!! Miles has done a great job keeping LSU where it should be, BUT failed BIG TIME last year.

What if Spurrier had gone to LSU rather than South Carolina?

Would we care if Saban went to Mississippi State? No

Saban really wanted to go back to LSU and SEC football, he made a mistake with Miami, knew it and got out of it. He just made the bad choice of going to Bama because I don't think he really realized how bad LSU tards was gonna react to it and they have continiously. he has mentioned how fond he is of LSU all the time to no avail.

3 reasons:

1. Spurrier was at UF a lot longer than Saban was at LSU meaning for you guys it still sucked when he left but you still had many, many good years. LSU had great years with Saban, but he was there only 5 years.

2. When Saban left to go to Miami he said, "I'll always be an LSU Tiger." Then he goes to Bama? WTF?

3. He coaches Alabama. We are LSU. Inexcusable.

The sooner he leaves Bama the sooner things can start to patch up in Baton Rouge.

Bingo!

Here's my take on Nick Saban. Great coach. Great program motivator, but his ego is bigger than anyone realizes. At the end of the day he'll do what's best for him. He was always flirting with NFL jobs while at LSU. It's what he does. At times I think he'll be in Bama for a while, then I think he likes moving around.

I remember when he went to Miami he said something like, "I'm doing what's best for my family." I find that VERY hard to believe it was a move for his family.

He put himself in a position to go where he wanted.

Good point Dukke v. Thats why i don't understand. Florida had good teams, but never won anything until SS got there. Coaches leave for whatever reason. Thats part of the business, but if they take your program to new heights before they go you at least gotta give'em credit for that.

In all honesty, I think him being an alum is the reason he has gotten a pass on the things he has done lately.

It is definitely a factor. On top of it, I really don't recall any questions about his integrity. I like Spurrier-- he really is cocky, but has always backed it up, and when someone asks him a question, he is much more likely to give an honest answer, and sometimes a very witty one. He doesn't hide behind tons of coach speak. You know who he is-- I respect that.

Saban, in comparison, is diningenuous. And while I do feel like he sincerely wanted Miles to do well, and wished the LSU community well on the way out, the timing of his announcements on the way to Bama, and some of his other statements since then have been clearly to cut down LSU and build himself up. The key thing is that it is not out of malice-- it is business. If he wants to do well at UA, then it is in his best interest to make the most of of the supposed hatred of LSU fans towards him and to fan those flames. It gets him press and makes him more relevant. It doesn't matter if Miles won with Saban's players or not. Saban didn't have squat to do with LSU in 2007, but it is great for Saban that people talk about it and plants that seed in the heads of recruits that maybe... just maybe it is because of Nick Saban.

So again, I don't hate him. It is just business and it is his job now to help UA, and he knows if he can hurt LSU now, it helps him. That is irritating, so I honestly would prefer to see him fail at UA.

I would think that anyone who coaches at Bama is in it to hurt LSU, Auburn, Tenn.,etc. DUKKE, don't you love the rationalization of these youngsters who don't know what in the hell they are talking about? I love the earlier response in this thread from the fool that stated that BAMA was a traditional rival of LSU. BAMA was never a true rival of LSU. Bama was a big game when
I graduated from LSU but we never considered them a rival, Ole Miss had that distinction.

I, too, wish the Saban thing would die. Having said that, Bama is the most hotly contested game of the year. KC.

Saban left for Miami everyone understood, he said he loved LSU will always be a Tiger etc.
Takes bama job after being dishonest to Miami.
One of his first calls was to try and get LSU coaches next move was to try and get players already committed to LSU. Made off color jokes about Louisiana. That is more than enough for me not to like him.

I think the hatred of Saban is overblown by many people. I think most LSU fans don't really feel that strongly about him. However, to the extent that some do, there are significant differences between the Saban/LSU situation and the Spurrier/Florida situation.

--Spurrier was at Florida for 12 years, Saban was at LSU for only 5. It's hard to ask for more than 12 years, but 5, not so much.

--Spurrier waited until after the bowl game to announce he was leaving Florida. Saban announced it a week before the bowl and basically took the bowl season off and had us woefully unprepared, causing us to lose.

--Spurrier didn't take potshots at Florida and its fans in the media for months after being hired at South Carolina. Saban did at LSU.

--Spurrier didn't go into Florida recruiting against the Gators and using his former Florida players to give him local credibility. Saban did this in Louisiana.

--Spurrier didn't make disparaging comments about Florida's current coaching staff in recruiting. Saban did make comments about LSU's.

--Spurrier didn't immediately start using Florida's commitment list as his recruiting list when he started at South Carolina, and didn't use underhanded tactics like having Florida commits make secret unofficial visits to South Carolina and lie about it to Florida coaches. Saban did at Alabama.

--Spurrier went to South Carolina, not much of a rival of Florida either historically or in the present day. Saban went to Alabama, a team we have a long and bitter history with.

I think Nick Saban is amoral, but a very good football coach. I'll always be glad he coached at LSU and will always appreciate the good job he did here. But as far as I'm concerned, he has used up any goodwill he earned with that, so I don't feel any particular affinity or loyalty to him now. He's just another opposing coach we have to beat to accomplish our goals.
