Unless they get the drainage fixed it doesn't matter what you put down it will be a waste of money. They better have sub pumps pumping straight out to the Mississippi River.

I heard that the field was getting more difficult to maintain because the stadium keeps going up on all sides. That's led to more shadows which has led to less sunlight on the field. Sounds reasonable to me

LSU needs to hire State's turf guy. They always have beautiful turf and ours looks good for just a few games.

Maybe we should just cover the field before rain instead of saying we have a great drainage system

Our soil conditions will not allow just a cover, the water also comes from below the soil line from surrounding areas and also an elevated water table when the Mississippi River is up.
Hopefully, they isolated the field and placed subsurface drainage and pump system to get the water out, probably a good chunk of that 3.5 million!

Exactly! This is South Louisiana, it floods after a half inch of rain. Not that I would like a field turf, but that is why just about every college and high school team in South Louisiana has field turf now.

It's a lot of money but I'm glad they're spending top dollar to (hopefully) get it right. The playing surface from Auburn onward was dreadful.

That turf in Philly last night was pristine despite a downpour. Would be great to have someyhing like that.

Not sure if they still do this, but at least around 2015 they started the year with Bermuda and around mid year they switch to Bluegrass.

12. Philadelphia Eagles: Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, Penn.

The Eagles want the best of both worlds with their natural grass. The season starts with warm-weather Bermuda and sometime before the fall ends the Eagles make a switch suitable for the north, installing cold-weather Kentucky bluegrass boosted by the under-field heating system. Philadelphia's dedication and effort to putting forth a quality grass field is clear, even with a hefty lineup of events coming through the Linc.

Edit:
one that says GrassMaster

Another Bermuda without mentioning anything added.

And hopefully the salary to hire an experienced professional Head Turf Manager Guru to properly maintain it......

It will be a great addition and the cross section being put in place will drastically improve the drainage and sustainability of the new grass.

The company doing is it sone of the best around and the engineering firm is top notch. Both Louisiana companies.

I keep seeing people say that they should just cover the field.

Well, I'm no expert but, for one, I'm sure they exist but I don't know that I've ever seen a tarp big enough to cover 120 yards by 50 yards. Two, where do you think the water goes that falls onto the tarp? Drainage, in my opinion, is the key to making sure the field stays in good shape. You should look up the vacuum systems used under the greens at Augusta.

This! It has everything to do with what's underneath that grass.
