Bought one a week ago and barely even played it. Bought it solely for this game

it's probably a little low, but not nearly as much of a fleecing as it looks on the surface.

I don't know how the NFL PA breaks down what each player gets, but lets just say they hypothetically split the players' portion of the pie exactly equal and ever player gets the same amount.

the Madden - NFL PA deal is worth $500 mil total over 7 seasons.
roughly 1,855 active players in the NFL breaks out to around $42 K per player per season. If we're counting only the 53 man active roster on each team. But there are more players than that plus former players as well that all split that money.

just FBS alone has 11,390 scholarship players.
any FCS players also in game adds to that number (but we'll focus on just FBS for now).

there is almost NO WAY the NCAA game is worth the same as the NFL contract.

2013 (last year both games were sold)
Madden sold just under 7 million copies.
NCAA sold a total of 1.5 million copies over a 5 year span
about 4.5 times as many copies

so if Madden is worth 4.5 times as much as the NCAA game, then the players' portion would be around $111 mil over 7 seasons.

breaks out to about $1,300 per player if we're only counting the 85 scholarship players on the 134 teams in FBS.

Classic teams would kick arse

I'm curious how those will work.

with the NFL, there is a union that covers all of the current and former players.
so madden negotiates one deal that covers almost all of them.

there is no such thing for former college players.

so they would have to negotiate with each individual player (which seems like that would be a nightmare).

maybe they can work an additional deal with the NFL PA to cover the former guys currently in the league?

Hard to believe any college kid would turn down $600, a free game, and the chance for the whole world to see them in the game.

I don’t think that list is entirely up to date. The article states that Swinson isn’t in the game, which is apparently not true. He may have just opted in later than that list was last updated

They are 18-22 year old kids. They probably just didn't return a phone call or email back a contract in time.

The money going to the PA and not the individual player is a huge difference, I would doubt current players receive even a fraction of that as a lot of it goes to former players who appear in the game, the union itself, administration, and lawyers.

I read somewhere that it's estimated each player actually gets around $28,000 but that wasn't a confirmed number.

but again, everything you mentioned above is still only a fraction of the amount of people that need a cut of the college game.
a game that historically doesn't sell anywhere close to as many copies as Madden does.

College Football as a whole makes an absolute shite ton of money.
But when you sit back and look at the sheer volume of players, coaches, schools, etc. compared to the NFL, the "per participant" amount is not exactly a huge figure.

Can I team the 2019 offense with 2011 defense. It would be a blood letting.

I understand the math but this game is going to eclipse madden sales. By a lot.

Quote me here and check around August 2025.

Someone above did the math of $50 mil. I don’t think people realize how much money EA is about to make here.

How much do you think they should get?

If all 85 scholarship players on a roster opt in at $600 each, EA is paying $51,000 per school. Multiply that by 134 FBS schools and that's over $6.8 million just for licensing the players NIL.

That doesn't include the licensing costs paid to the NCAA, schools, conferences, CFP, Heisman Trust, bowl games, etc

Then they have to pay the commentators, which can't be cheap. Chris Fowler said he provided 115 hours of voice recording for the game and he said that there's multiple announce teams in addition to him and Herbstreit depending on the magnitude of the game.

You can't put a price tag on what the backup long snapper should make for having his name, image and likeness in this game. That's not to mention the redshirt right guard or the third-stringer place-kicker.

in year 1 it will but long term probably not.

$600 is a little low but they can’t go from $2,000 this year to $1,000 a few years now without people losing it.

and i don’t think people realize just how many people need to get paid off the college game vs the NFL.

you’re talking about 10,000 more people that get a cut.

that slices the per person amount substantially.

Looks like Lacy has opted in somehow past the deadline. He tweeted he’s in the game.
